StormSurge Podcast on point with current state of program

Something I'd like to ask this dumbass administration: How long do you think the ACC is going to put up with us and our bottom feeding athletic department? ****, even Wake Forest is better than we are in most sports. They have to know this money-grubbing administration is just leeching off other programs' successes. They kicked Temple out of the Big East, so the ACC can boot us for nonperformance, too.
Like everything else with this damned school, it's all about a premium price for a bargain basement result.
Would also like to know: WHO THE **** is raking in those $$$$$ and WHAT are they doing with them? The whole mess just stinks to high heaven.

I think some of the assistants are doing a good job : TE's seemed to be doing ok ( jury still out on Mallory), RB seemed to be developing, WR - just the fact that we haven't seem as many drops as last couple of years. DL think we miss Simpson, the DL doesn't explode off the ball. LB I think have been horribly coached : even when Manny was coaching them . Patke : can't complain Finley ( might be the MVP) and Frierson are usually making plays. Rumph with what he has does good job coaching, Banda his last couple of safeties have made the NFL.

O line : I mean who knows I know they are young but good lord this is just bad, Donaldson gets push aside by some LB half his size, our linemen are constantly leaning off balance, let DL just run by them while they go block someone already being block. Incredible when the other team rushes 3 gets there and 3 of our linemen are standing there having hit no one .

You have to believe that the admin told Richt they would give him 1 million for an OC (I thought it was 1.5, but let's say 1 mil for sake of argument), then told Manny a couple days after hiring him they are slashing his budget. I don't see that happening. Richt at 4.5 mil plus 1 mil for OC equals 5.5 mil. Manny at 3 mil + 1 mil for OC equals 4 mil. That's means he had an additional 1.5 million to stack on the funds given to hire a staff. He had the money to hire a light years better staff than some flunkies from La Tech. Two possible reasons he aimed so low.

1) it was the best he could find willing to work with him. Enos sounds like an exception to that (Diaz "stealing" him from Saban) but everyone knows that assistants run away from Saban as soon as they can. Enos was given an opportunity to call plays and not deal with Saban. As bad as it seems, Miamis offense has made a huge leap from last year (I think its ranked 40th now, was in the 90s last year). That's a big enough improvement that Enos will get a call to be a HC from a G5 school at the end of the year. His gamble will have paid off. It had nothing to do with wanting to work for Diaz.

2. Diaz is super insecure and doesn't want to have a staff of people who could challenge his authority. Imagine if he hired a DC who told him that his delayed safety blitzes were garbage. Think he's open to that kind of criticism? He hired a bunch of pushovers who would be grateful to him for giving them a shot at the P5 level.

Kev is the worst hurricanes podcaster there is. He makes us look so bad on the Big 3 Rollup.

He literally knows so little about football its annoying. Barely knows our roster.

Gators about to take over south Florida recruiting

yea the two biggest targets this year should have been walker and dumervil
it looks like they both may end up with the gators

its sad when mullen can just walk in and take your top targets because were such a mess of a program right now

UFlorida is going to raid all of South Florida? WTF is there left to raid when the rest of the country has raided this place?

Alabama, UGA, OSU got first dibs. And Miami is still going to get their fair share of 3*.

Miami can still win with those coached up 3 stars though

Even in 2021 they'll get Taylor and Marshall. They also have a great shot at flippin collins if they want him. They already have Sapp committed.

Very true. I think thats something Miami should have been doing.

I think people really look at recruiting as if it’s just rankings and not actual human beings.

Find the type of athlete that you want and recruit that type of player that fits your scheme and what you want to do.

These kids are humans. If you’re target is “6’3+ WR who run under 4.5” then that should be your target. With obvious exceptions to the rule.

No matter what people say height and weight DO make a difference in sports no matter what level you play at.

There are things Calvin Johnson can do that Antonio Brown couldn’t dream of and vice versa.

If you field a team full of 5 star 5’7 corners and I field a team full of 6-5 WRs and 6-6, 6-7, TEs I bet you we several jump balls that perfect coverage can’t do anything against.

That’s whats been happening when Bandy gets beat. He always has good position and leverage but sometimes going against bigger and more physical men you may take your Ls every now and then. I mentioned this in the preseason.

If we had competent outside corners you’d like to see bandy in the nickel and covering the slot more.

I have always believed that Miami needed to field a team and run schemes that fit the personnel of our recruiting base.

South Florida has speed, some of the fastest athletes in the nation come out of here.

To me at the college level you take the Al Davis speed approach with Miami. Recruit fast quick twitch athletes. Play base cover 1 man. Dare opponent to beat your team speed.

Quick smaller south Florida LBs. The 230-250lb Linebackers aren’t growing on trees in south Florida. Plenty of speedy 190-215 kids are running that can hit the college weight room and play around 220 and maintain speed.

I always loved Jordan Miller because of his pure size. It’s hard to block those guys. While there are some outstanding quick 280lb DTs in the NFL give me the Haloti Ngatas. 6’5 330-350 super strong and literally a load to block type DTs.

With smaller quicker DEs. From 220-280lb

Run a offense scheme based on speed. For the reasons stated above. We have always had at least one burner on every roster at WR. This year we have a bunch and don’t use them correctly.

Once you create an identity, identify the players that fit what you want to do, land those players you will see the wins pile up

I have to imagine that Manny is aware as to how he has whiffed in a couple of spots on his coaching hires, Baker being the glaringly obvious pain right now. Hopefully he goes back to Blake (and Jen) and asks for more $$$ to spend for OLine and DLine. The funny thing is as bad as the line currently is, I’m not so sure that Barry could fix the issues.

Speaking of money, Enos is better than the prior Co-OC under Richt, but is certainly not worth $1MM of value. If he bolts after the end of the year as someone else insinuated could happen to a lower tier school, good. We need to be able to hire competent enough coaches to get these kids ready to play. Spend the $1MM on a OC that knows the game of football instead of their scheme. Someone that is flexible enough to understand the hand that they are dealt and how best to play their cards given the various levels of talent and shortfalls. We also need some mercenary recruiters to get the talent in to support the deficiency from the last class and the fallout that is bound to happen from this class.
The verdict on the defensive side of the ball is certainly still out. If the D performs better with Manny taking a personal interest in it, I would hope that Baker would take a pay cut to keep the DC title (if Manny is so inclined to offer him a nice compromise). Then the obvious hire would be a DLine coach worth a **** (and please conduct a legitimate search). If we have truly taken a step towards speed in the LB department, perhaps the remaining money can be spent on a ST coach for once.

Better allocation of resources should be able to make a huge difference in results. It’s not easy to figure out how to spend a specific allotment of money, especially with no prior experience. We shall see what Manny is made of once the off-season hits. Until then, pucker up and pray that we can figure out how to turn the table around.

The real problem is the OB Curse. The OB Was torn down and we ain't done squat since....boot the **** Marlins out and take that stadium back, that land is sacred to UM....

I think Manny had a budget, and of course it’s his fault how he managed it, but he saw how bad the O was a spent the majority of it on Enos, and I know he had to pay up for Fields and POOF there went the budget. That being said I don’t think the budget is anywhere close to where it needs to be to be successful.

Say he hits a few diamonds in the rough (he hasn’t) and bigger schools come spending they will be gone. Hartley originally passed up an opportunity for more money because he loved Miami. Not many of those cats out here
All ACC teams are getting about 11mm from the acc network deal. Where is that money going ? 90 percent of that should flow to the bottom line. What is that money being used for ?

My point is that w the acc network money they should have enough money to go and spend on top coaches. I understand that money will get spread around but the lions share should go to football.

I know it’s not public record but I’d be interested to see our staff salary compared to other schools.

We’ve had **** coaches for nearly 15 years.

Some number I remember through the years.

Shannon was making under a mill in his first year. I think he made 1.1 going into year 4

CMR was 4.5. Thomas brown was near 800k

It’s not that manny couldn’t have hired a better staff, he just didn’t want to.... the administration was willing to hire a 1 million dollar o coordinator even with richt after last season with the rest of his coaching staff salaries. Was going to bump up manny Diaz pay to keep him from leaving for temple. They have money but Diaz decided he wanted to keep his defensive staff(okay they at least had some credibility since they have been here for 3 seasons) and hire baker(who again?). And then when Simpson left we hired stroud, did a coaching search even happen? **** no.... When a 10th assistant coach was allowed do you think we Did a coaching search for betterment of the team and recruiting? No we hired a ga level coach patke and here we are

Miami got off Scot free of not paying richt ANY severance money. They could have done more with hiring coaches surrounding Diaz a first timer outside of enos. Richt’s first staff at Miami was more expensive than this one and better. Miami is not as broke as people think they are whatsoever. With adidas partnership and now ACC tv network revenue coming in this year that they didn’t have before they will have more money than they ever did at their disposal. Now will they use it for football your money maker is the question that needs to be asked
You’re right. I’m sick of the Russell Athletics guys making everything about money. It’s not about money. It’s about bad hiring choices by the AD and then by the HC with his staff.

If it was truly a money thing, they wouldn’t have scratched out a $4M check to Temple at the blink of an eye to “steal” Shanny from them.

Russell Athletics crew needs to use their heads instead of spewing empty drivel about money all the time when things go wrong.

Tell me specifically who Shanny wanted to hire but couldn’t hire because of money. You can’t, you dopey podcasters! He hired the guys he wanted. He hired the guys he knew in his network. And he let Enos hire the offensive staff he wanted.

We paid enough to lure Enos from Alabaga, but we wouldn’t pay for a DC or a WR coach? Come on, dummies. Use your empty heads for once.
