What I love about him is the switch…he turns it on like Brian Dawkins, but seems like a regular, solid person as a person. Seeing him interview and then watching him, it’s a crazy (in a good way) contrast.

Do you remember Freeney getting completely stonewalled against us in 2001? McKinnie dominated him, but went to the league and had a hall of fame career. Reese had an outstanding year, he just got his *** busted against what I felt was the best line in the country. Individually I’m not super sold on him, but not just because of one disappearing act. I saw games where Myles Garret was invisible. Clowney had some stinkers too. ****, our guy Reuben wasn’t always impactful, although he was never blanked like Reese was in the Cotton Bowl. I’d take Bain over him 8 days a week, by the way. He reminds me of T. Suggs at ASU.

I thought it was fine, as in how I would do that drill (40 still decent athlete). Then I relised we talking elite 20yo athletes here.

The words stiff (pause) and straight line come to mind.
 
I don’t feel crazy saying bain is a better athlete than him. The flexibility, balance..just the controlled chaos but with elite technique and coordination. He’s way faster and jumps higher but athleticism is more than that to me

When I used to fancy myself as an amateur scout prior to every NFL Draft that was my #1 criteria to look for.

He played lb alot more i think and he was just a generational type athlete, people say that for reese but i just don’t see it

You know even as I wrote my comment I was thinking about Freeney being stonewalled by McKinnie. But I remember us chipping Freeney for the first quarter or half with an RB, and all our RB’s were good blockers. And at least McKinnie was another 1st round pick.

I loved Bell but he’s a mid-round pick and I honestly don’t remember hearing Reese’s name once in that game. Maybe it was just a bad game as you noted can happen, but it felt more to me like he looks the part but doesn’t produce. And the NFL is littered with these “looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane” guys.

Reese can hardly touch his toes and never was dominant. Your argument doesn’t make any sense. The aforementioned have/had elite technique or traits or both.
 
I just wouldn't draft Reese in the top 20 for sure. Honestly, I probably take him early 2nd, but obviously he is long gone by then. He really didn't play much his FR year. He played the majority of his snaps his SO year at Edge and also LB. He didn't do much as a pass rusher in 24. He broke out this season as a LB. Patricia liked to play him as a stacked LB depending on their formation. I certainly am not calling him a bust, but their just isn't enough proven production for me to take him Top 20. I am a game tape, live action guy over combine stuff. Combine stuff can move the needle for me, but it would never, ever vault a player on my board. I wouldn't even compare Reese to Bain.
Let's be honest, Bain certainly isn't some elite pass rusher. He is elite at setting the edge and stopping the run. He is never going to challenge a sack record. He is really good at getting pressure and getting some sacks as a pass rusher. A great run/pass combo player. He also shines in big moments.

I don’t remember Styles doing a **** thing in the Cotton, unless we consider getting run through by Beck as doing something.

You’re right about Big Bell. I like him a lot personally, seems like a good young man, but I don’t see him making it in the league. Maybe he could move inside, but that’s not likely to happen. I wish that he would’ve stayed, but having done so wouldn’t have improved his status moving forward.

6’5”, 240’ish with Javon Kearse level traits carries weight that elite technique often does not. You act like Reese didn’t have a dominant, highly productive year and wasn’t a starter on a national championship team. What do you consider dominant? Being a consensus first team all-American and B10 linebacker of the year doesn’t happen to someone that’s not dominant. The NFL looks at projections over production, which is why he and Styles are going to be top 10 picks despite not being able to touch his toes. I swear some of you people just say some mildly retarded **** on here. 69 tackles, 10 sacks and 13.5 TFLs is pretty dominant to me. Reuben was a better player, more disruptive, but he didn’t have the production that Reese had. 9.5 sacks and only 54 total tackles. With that being said, our guy was more impactful and will be a better pro, but I don’t have to knock Reese or anyone else to prop up our guy.
