Stop Hiring "Miami Guys" and stop trying to Emulate Georgia

OP makes some good arguments. That said, it's not easy to identify the next Dennis Erickson. If you want to go with a sure thing scheme coach, be prepared to break the bank for Hc and staff. You may not end up saving as much coin as you initially envisaged.
The next Dennis Erickson??....That'd mean handing him a staggering amount of talent like JJ left DE.

You are 100% right and thats my entire problem with how things are handled with us. To me it shouldn’t matter if u are family or connected to a candidate, if your goal is u want better for the program then u should put up money no matter who it is as long as they’re worthy
Should u not have confidence in what you're putting your money towards? In what business do you blindly put money somewhere with no clue or commitment where that money is being placed? You guys just have all decided you know normal occurrences for college sports and that we're doing something unique in our process that everyone else isn't doing. The only thing that was unique was Elmer fudd hiring the used car salesman with no process. Other than that everything we have ever done has had at the very least a process of some sort behind it that is widely accepted throughout the industry. When we hired Howard, Jimmy,Dennis, alfraud,Mandy, etc all those were one issue while Butch,Coker,Onion,Richt & Mario were something seperate... Koo. Well now I understand.

To be clear, in virtually every instance when a new coach is hired he comes in because there is some form of connection to the university and the money at it.

Welp how many conference championships & rose bowl victories does lane have? How often has lane been in contention for playoff spots? Now ur response will be how those are insignificant for whatever reasons you choose. Most likely because it was in the pac 12 or whatever else. So nah I'm gonna say he definitely hasn't proven nothing (as a head coach)that he's done better than Mario.
See u would sound like u know something to someone who doesn’t know the context of the situations. I give mario credit for his tenure at oregon, i dont have to put him down to prop up lane. I wanted mario over lane when that was a debate on here.

Lane at usc in the pac 12 went 8-5 then 11-2 but couldn’t participate for the conference championship or even a bowl game because of sanctions by the NCAA, 11-2 was the best record in the conference btw if they were allowed he more than likely has a pac12 championship and bowl game wins too.

And of course he’s not gonna be in playoff contention with ole miss if he has to play that schedule every year, its common sense u will have a better record on paper in the pac 12 than the sec so therefore u have a better chance at being ranked higher for the playoffs . Thats not diminishing what he did thats just reality. If lane hasnt proven anything to u then how has mario, then if u look at their full resume its clear lane is a better coach.

Of course u have to have confidence in your investment no one said blindly throw money anywhere. Im just saying it does not seem like we had any real process when people have said they were in contact with mario during the season and one of the guys in control of the process said publicly he had mario name at the top of the list at the beginning of it all. That doesn’t sound like people doing their due diligence and i think we as fans have good reason to question it after the last 3 hirings have all been miami guys

You mean the same usc team that Pete carrol left loaded for him... I don't need more context than I already have. I know all parties involved. I'm not gonna try to change any of y'all's minds. Personally I don't really care.

We would have been further ahead offensively with Lane

Lane wouldn’t have destroyed the QB room and the offense…

Also, this thread is funny…

Hire Manny due to connections: “Abomination”

Hire Mario the same way, just different connections: “Smart business”

My God man why does it always have to be this laborious rebuild or 6-7 years?

Good coaches are winning right away and great coaches are winning Championships in 2-3 years

Why can't people just fathom the concept that Cristobal may not be who we think he is?
This biggest issue with Mario is that he's a guy who thinks he's an X's and O's kind of guy when he isn't. He's a great recruiter that needs to hire good X's and O's guys for coordinators and get out of their way. If he can do that, he will be very successful here IMO. For one reason or another, up until this point, he has not figured out that he's not the X's and O's guy. Idk if it's Ego or lack of self awareness or both, but until he figures that out I think his ceiling will be a 9-10 win guy with the occasional shot at a conference title here and there. If he keeps messing up his coaching hires like he did last year however, then that expectation drops drastically. I do think he got it right this year with his hires though for whatever that's worth.

The team didn’t quit until the offense was completely and utterly hopeless. We didn’t lose the earlier games because they quit, we lost them because we continuously made catastrophic mistakes on both sides of the ball. Coaches and players were responsible for that.

Mario didn’t lose the group, but they lost hope for the season. Allowing Gattis to linger was a huge mistake and he is getting his *** kicked for it. The offense turned on him, the coaches turned on each other and we were a complete mess. I don’t care how many blue chip players you signed. That kind of toxicity will sink any team.

Mario made some big miscalculations. He went for names over chemistry in his hires and he didn’t account for how hard teams were going to come for him on the recruiting trail after he stuck it in their faces with his success with the 2022 and 2023 classes.

If nothing else, he is a leader of men. These guys will play for him. The issue is he has to be sober with his football decisions. Stubbornness will get him his *** handed to him. The good thing about being humiliated last year is he couldn’t stay the course. Mediocrity could have deluded him into staying the course, but getting skull ****ed forced him to make changes.

He is exactly who he showed himself to be at Oregon and he will get us to that level. The real questions are is that his/our ceiling and how much wrath will he endure in the meantime. He used up his goodwill real quick with those losses.
I can't wait for the day we play Utah once we are at "that level".

Maybe we should stop trying to emulate schools like Georgia and Alabama. Perhaps a new Template like…Temple?
