Stop Hiring "Miami Guys" and stop trying to Emulate Georgia

Spot on my man! I've been preaching this sh*t since they hired Clappy. I liked the Mario hire because he recruits like a maniac. He's one of the few coaches who actually enjoys doing it.

That being said I wish he loosens the reigns on the field and allows his assistants to coach and call the plays.

He needs to:
- recruit like a maniac
- build and maintain the financial bank
- build and maintain the program infrastructure including buildings, equipment, support, programs, etc
- hire great assistants w/modern and adaptive philosophies
- get out of the way on game day

No part of this has been alfraud golden results. I'm not even gonna argue his game day coaching as I agree it leaves room for improvement. My issue is the fans who choose to act like he just stepped into a great situation and everything that happened was just all on him. Give the man time to work and than choose what you're gonna say from than on our. But all this constant doom and gloom because last season was an absolute Greek tragedy of epic proportions so the obvious conclusion to draw is he's not the man for the job so you should just start flying banners now is foolish. By the way don't put Mandy diaz anywhere near as a Miami guy... Thanks & if you're mentioning Richt because you think that was another horrible hire I'll simply leave it at I REALLY disagree. Happy 4th

I’ve mentioned before, Richt has been our best coach by far and I respect him the most out of any of them, dude was fighting demons and gracefully bowed out to save money for this program. Richt is as Cane as it gets. Would’ve loved to see him with a legit Spread OC, we would’ve been cooking

PIN THIS COMMENT:

All you Mario Cristobal haters will eat your words in a couple of years when he’s winning. Y’all really act like Mario came into a great *** situation.
USC was 4-8 in 2021 and they found a way to flip it too 11-3 with a 1st year coach
TCU was 5-7 then went 13-2 with a 1st year coach
Washington was 4-8 then went 11-2 with a 1st year coach

Were there situations much better?

OP makes some good arguments. That said, it's not easy to identify the next Dennis Erickson. If you want to go with a sure thing scheme coach, be prepared to break the bank for Hc and staff. You may not end up saving as much coin as you initially envisaged.

Many here, including me, wanted Kiffin. Never forget watching Mario getting stomped by Utah and thinking ‘is Miami really gonna give this guy tens of millions of dollars?’

Oh well we ride with him..

go Canes!!
Just shows people are woefully dillusional about the things they want. You talk about Mario because a of Utah yet you don't mention any of his positives. Yet you don't bring up ANY of kiffins NUMEROUS MEMORABLE **** UPS. So I'll remind you of just one of them and the response it generated...

Mario was basically coming here after the Michigan state lose so he was kind of checked out/distracted for Utah games.

Actually 2 of the 3 definitely were & the third is yes and no. There's no point in arguing any of this though because you all refuse to acknowledge ANY of the plus and minuses we had going on. You see every situation as being equal and everything is black and white. It's not.

There are two ideas that are often floated in these threads.

1. Miami is in the major leagues now for coaching salary so they should be able to do better.

2. Why just hire someone who is connected to wealthy boosters.

Did it ever occur to you that these two things are connected? Maybe we have the money because he is tight with them? Maybe they wouldn’t have come up with the money to pay for some other dude?

Just saying. When you go to dinner with you rich friends footing the bill, they might get to decide where you eat.

I still can't comprehend how so many people on here think lashlee did some amazing job. Don't get me wrong. I don't think most on here really understand what they're seeing. But even to an untrained eye we were a disaster plenty often. Great when we completely abandoned any hope of running the ball or any form of a possession based offense we could somewhat move the ball with the same 4 routes continuously. All of which was dependent on Harley/Rooster with the extended hand offs or Rambo with stretching the field. How did we look outside of that?
It showed against Bama and Clemson. Could not move the ball at all and Lashlee had no answers. Very good/great coordinators have the ability to scheme against more talented teams. I saw nothing from Lashlee that led me to believe he was an above avg coordinator.

So tired of the USC comparison.

Yes, Lincoln Riley is a great offensive coach, maybe the best in college football. He also poached an elite QB in Caleb Williams, who played under him at Oklahoma. He then poached two of the best wide receivers in college football. These aren’t criticisms of Riley but clearly show the difference between USC and Miami. I don’t think USC was as bad as their 4-8 record in 2021; I think Clay Helton was a terrible coach. They weren’t a 10 win team either.

And by the way, USC lost twice to Utah, the second loss a blowout in the conference championship game. This was followed up by blowing a sizable lead to G5 program Tulane in a bowl game.

All with a terrible defense, a career consistent with Riley.

In CIS‘s favorite conference, the PAC12. The same weak conference many joke about Mario winning twice.

The Cult of Kiffin never fails to amaze. Must be his swagger.

Dudes been nothing but middle of the pack everywhere he's been as a head coach. But hey his offense is fun to watch so he'd do great here... Gotta love the logic.

Careful now. Ur asking for way too much common sense out of cis. It's not like Mario has proven anything with rose bowl victories & conference championships after turning around a **** Oregon team that taggart left him after his lay over. Heaven for id Mario gets credit for anything he's done cause you know we should've won the acc last year with all that injured talent on the sideline. Lol

You are 100% right and thats my entire problem with how things are handled with us. To me it shouldn’t matter if u are family or connected to a candidate, if your goal is u want better for the program then u should put up money no matter who it is as long as they’re worthy

And what has mario done so significant? I agree i dont think lane is some all time great but he has proven he can coach better than mario up to this point.

Welp how many conference championships & rose bowl victories does lane have? How often has lane been in contention for playoff spots? Now ur response will be how those are insignificant for whatever reasons you choose. Most likely because it was in the pac 12 or whatever else. So nah I'm gonna say he definitely hasn't proven nothing (as a head coach)that he's done better than Mario.
