Stop blaming the players for going! Even 7th rounders can make big bucks

Also, i bring this point up a lot on these types of threads but its worth repeating. NFL GMs are far less likely to cut a 3rd or 4th rounder who isn't panning out than a 6th or 7th rounder. In other words, you're far more likely to remain employed through your entire contract if you're drafted earlier. Late picks are throw aways.

I can't argue with that, but I will say that these kids have been told how great they are for most of their lives and they believe in their ability to out-compete others and earn a spot.

Getting drafted in of itself is a major accomplishment on its own, doesnt always have to do with talent.

Regardless non of our players that left early this year will be anywhere near 7th round picks. RJ and Norton both will be gone by the 3rd or 4th round.

Reality is most of these guys burn through millions in their 20’s and 30’s and end up broke.

Rich or poor, black or white, for some reason, money management, common sense finance and investing is something that’s is not emphasized in any high schools and most colleges, unless of course you are a businesss major, and even then only in the right courses.

The NFL gives rooks seminars about it, but I think they tune it out, to be honest.

Even a lower round pick, while not set for life, can certainly collect a nice nest egg to start a nice life and begin a second career.

I hope most guys go into it as if this is just their first career, one that they love and is lucrative, but their second career will be much longer. That’s why the college degree is so important.

First career: ten years if they’re lucky. Second career: 30 years, even if they early retire.
