Ngl this is actually on path to legit code red/ defcon for crypto… google just said it will take 20x less resources than thought to crack bitcoin/etherium encryption (ECDLP-256)
Google literally isn’t even publishing everything cause they are worried that if all the info got out, bad actors would use it.. they are only allowing zero knowledge proofs… and they are saying 2029 is the new target for when these blockchains need to move over to quantum safe encryption…
while some coins maybe more advanced ultimately how Bitcoin and Etherium go is the most consequential… though Etherium is clearly ahead here… Bitcoin though … idk…
Will be “overvalued” in the sense it’s unlikely to be a good medium term investment at that price and will likely have high volatility within its first year.
However I will say the fact they are getting rules changed to enter listings extremely early can certainly change things. They just got Nasdaq to change their rules to be able to enter top100 within 15 days. And S&P is supposedly considering rule change to significantly increase time to get them to add to S&P500 as well (normally 1yr min and consecutive profitable quarters I believe). And obviously those trigger large buying from passive funds that track those…
But consider upon ipo many of the investors will not be allowed to sell for like 3-6mo this or something I believe. And given the name there will be very high retail demand. So high demand, investors locked in… sounds like could be result in scarcity of shares available.. and then 15 days later they will gain Nasdaq100 entry forcing passive funds to buy, but investors aren’t allowed to sell as much yet… Then in a few months or maybe even sooner they’ll gain S&P500 inclusion which will force significantly more passive buying and that’s when the investors will end up being allowed to liquidate..
Idk will be crazy though. I’d want to buy, but at $2T that seems rich. If it’s at $1.5T, I’d buy tbh. I believe SpaceX is gunna be extremely successful long term.. so in that sense it’s still probably fine. But I don’t think if you buy at $2T you’ll see any profit for a couple years….
They are trying to raise like $50-75B in cash during ipo though… and there are rumors this could just be step 1 before Musk merges SpaceX and Tesla… but who knows.
Unlimited energy? If by that you mean using solar panels which generate 5-8 TIMES more energy than on earth and have less mass requirements than panels on earth, then sure...
Free cooling? Not at all. The is no free cooling in space. Space is "cold" but there is no conduction or convection into space itself, because there is no molecules to heat up (or be cooled down by) in the first place. So all cooling has to be done by radiation/radiators. And ultimately all energy generated in space ultimately turns into heat that has to be radiated away. And the way radiators work scales to the 4th power of Temperature the hardware is operating at. So you can substantially decrease radiator size by increasing the operating temp. However chips generally don't like operating above like 80-90C...
So basically Space Datacenters entirely come down to 2 points for whether they'll succeed or fail to make sense financialy:
1. Reduce launch $/Kg to orbit. This is the area SpaceX specializes in.
2. Designing Chips/hardware to operate >100C.
3rd point would probably be radiation hardening, but ultimately that is just a mass penalty for which if $/Kg is low enough doesn't matter a whole lot aside from just having to spend more money than you would for an terrestrial data center...
