Why would a transfer need to notify his coaches? They would already know that he is leaving and need to grant him his release. I would imagine they really won't care where he chooses to go.
 
If what Shodell is saying is true...

1. Big time defensive player

2. Transfer

3. Will help us this year


That says to me that its a rising redshirt senior thats already graduated who is transferring under the recent rule that allows you to play immediately if you start graduate school classes in a major that your existing university doesn't carry.

I'd focus on rising 5th year seniors if this is all true.

Well it's a defensive player and I'm not sure how attractive it would be for a one year DB as we have good talent back there so I'll bet you're right if this is all true.
