Still No Elite DT prospects in South Florida?

It's sort of mind boggling.

The last DT down here to be legit in college and NFL is corey Luiget? Class of 2008?

Am I missing someone?

Bosa is a more a DE right?

Both DT's from VA Tech madi n dadi will be the next good in college then NFL ( just a hunch). I don't know how they were in HS.

They played at Atlantic High in Delray. 55 min from UM. One of their coaches called UM about them and was told they didn't have enough size.

Messes with my head every time I see them living in somebody's backfield just like they did in HS.

Poor quality but you get the picture

WTF. .. who was in charge Shannon or Tie Guy or was it during the transition period after Shannon was fired.... wow that madi dadi combo been legit since HS

Seemingly a higher power has swooped in and sprayed some DT repellent on the fertile recruiting grounds of south florida. Correct me if im wrong but I haven't seen an elite 4 star or better DT here since Khairi Clark (not counting Valentine who relocated to miami for his senior year). Meanwhile the states of Louisiana, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and even recently Cali has been churning out DTs like its nobody's business. Where have all the DTs gone and are there any on the horizon that Butch can sign next year and beyond?

Valid f'ing point...

This year...zero!

Nothing last year...zero!

The year before, Valentine, Clark and Moten. That's it. Apparently we got the best one...

In 2013 - drama queen Bryant was the only one.

It's kind of crazy.!?

Yeah and there's only 2 4* DTs in the whole state next year and both are already committed- Spence (Ohio St.) and Parks (FSU)

UM is in the Top 5 for 2016 Ben Frazier DT/NT from Buford, GA and if coaches stay on him I think he could fall to Miami by default, which would be ideal for Miami similar to the Kendrick Norton saga from the 2015 class.

I am also hoping Miami will make a run at 2016 SDE/DT Tashawn Manning from Wekiva HS in Orlando, FL he is coached by former UM great Kenard Lang.

There are a few others that could come into play later during the season or just before signing day. But Dline recruiting is cyclical an this cycle OOS recruiting is better than instate and especially south florida.

Go Canes

Why did you post about the first two guys when they have literally nothing to do with the OP's question? Just curious.

Reading comprehension is a very important life skill, you should work on.

I was offering both an answer to the OP's question about why aren't there any elite DT's in south that UM can recruit and I was also offering evidence of the current prospects of DL's that Miami has a legit chance of landing that fit perfectly into the 3-4 scheme Miami uses now. He asked if there are any that Butch Davis would sign on the horizon an Manning is from Orlando which last time I checked was in the State of Miami (that is all the area south of Interstate 4 running from Daytona Beach to Tampa Bay).

An as for why I mentioned Benjamin "Shug" Frazier, well lets put it this way for those uniformed about him, as a Junior last year when his school played against current UM freshmen Kendrick Norton's school, Frazier literally manhandled Norton for 4 quarters. So to bring all this together; that is the same kendrick Norton that is simply owning Miami's Oline now during practice and he had a sack on his first play during the BCC game. So yeah it would be in Miami's best interest to try VERY HARD to sign the kid who whooped the current Miami player that is whooping everyone at practice on our team now.

Hopefully this brief tutoring session has been enough to edumacate you on the interior dline recruiting at Miami.

It's because of the Optomist ball. Weight restrictions...kids overweight really ain't playing football till they are in he 9th grade if that.

Then you have a prerequisite on speed down here. Like macho said rarely would you see a legit div 1 dt in tri county. Which is why fortson was so coveted. He'll we have big name programs like sta that are playing our inside lb recruit in the 2017 class at dt and he is 220-225. These coaches have no use for that spot or know how to coach it. Your fat? Go play ol...extremely fat well line you up at tackle lol.

Typical dt in south florida is 220 of tops.. I'm still mad of how my hS career went as I played dt sparingly and mostly lt in high school. I would dominate in camps or whenever my coaches put me in at dt(goaline)...my boys still say how I probably would of been at a power five conference if they had played me there more as I was 6'2-6'3 280 in high school..but coach was happy with the 5'11 240 dt who could run...and the 6'1 220 guy. That's the thought process in south florida.

Have to hit ga, nc, Louisiana to subsidize our interior lineman in my opinion. Sfl a doesn't produce enough to sustain. He'll Alabama cast a wide net and they offer **** near every legit dt in the country...that's essentially what you have to do.

So you mean a player like 2016 TJ "Big Snack" London from Georgia wouldn't be playing defense at all in south Florida, but has offers of UK, UL, NC State, and Miss St. All of whom will turn him into monster in 2 years.

isnt Optimist a state wide thing? north of tri-county in sw florida, orlando, tampa, jacksonville, etc there seems to be more DTs coming out of those areas.

Some of those areas may play middle school ball. And again down here there is a prerequisite on speed.... They are good with a dt being 220 that can just run to the ball and shoot gaps and they would send the 275-290 pd player on the other side to the ol regardless of the talent skill level.

When I played ball in high school there were some huge guys at dt down here and that was in the early 2000. Forts on maybe the last legit I've seen... That's why the moten get was big because there isn't much even coming down the pike from the tri county. I played against Dillard, plantation with two legit 300 at dt and the kid that went to auburn lined up on me at de.( Stanley mcglover). I swear these kids are even a lot smaller now.

No middle school ball in SWFL and no premier lineman either. Most are just big kids with no coaching at all.

Dude, I swear kids were bigger down here when we played high school ball.

I remember routinely facing kids that were 6'2"+ 280+. My Sophomore year at Nova we had three 6'3"+ 300lbs kids on the O-line, and the other two kids were also around 300lbs but they were shorter. And when we played against Western their whole O-line was 6'4"+. Big corn-fed *******s. Dillard had monsters all over their O-line as well.

Not only that, but I swear the LB's were bigger too. I remember **** near all the LB's being 200 to 230. I don't remember seeing all these skinny LB's that I see today.

Maybe they just seemed bigger to me back then cause I was a kid. I don't know.

I think it's true what gogeta4 says about big kids automatically being put on the O-line.

I had a kid last year who could've been a stud at DT. I don't know if he would've been a D-1 player but he sure as **** could've been an outstanding high school D-lineman.

About 6'3" 275lbs with good hands and could move pretty well. Before I got to Cooper he was strictly an O-lineman. I had to beg to use him on D-line. (sparingly) And just like gogeta4 was talking about, my starting DT/NT was a 5'11" 230lb kid. LOL

If you go to 3:34 you can see his limited highlights at DT.
Senior Highlights - Kyle Carr highlights

Maybe I'm just biased but I think he could actually play DT at somebody's college, while as an O-lineman he might be considered "too small". He was certainly a better prospect at D-line IMO.

Naw its not just you. Players were bigger even in my generation.

Jonathon Ford (6'4" 260) out of Dillard may end up being a DT. He's got some good offers already and Miami leads. Hopefully we nab him.....

STA had towers on their oline nad dline..(they still do)

Western and Cooper City routinely had two kids 6'4 300+.

My school had small LBS....but seing LBS at 225-230 was close to being normal....Now those kids are "HUGE" AT LB. I played against Nate Harris, a young Tavares Gooden and those guys were both 215+. HB Blades was a fat kid likely close to 2250235 at Line backer as well.

Like i said Dillard had TWO dts' over 300 pds....lol....Your not going to find that anymore....I think all those kids went div 1 too.

Size isnt stressed anymore dwn here.....speed speed is preached...so you will be luckyto see anymore 270-290 pd dts coming out of south florida.

That is one of the reasons why we lose to these OOS teams, watching the games these couple of years seeing some of the size difference is staggering, i know we got into a convo before about resources and all that but i also remember back in the day seeing the huge D-lines and O-lines killing each other

And like you said...

When they do get a kid with that kind of size they put him at O-line instead of developing him at DT.

I'll tell you right now...

Being a defensive minded coach...and a firm believer that "defense wins championships"...if I ever get an HC job I'm making sure that we develop two big DT's. ***** the Offensive Line. We're zone blocking anyway. I'll use five 220-240 pound kids that can get to their blocks quicker.

A few years ago when Cooper City beat STA their whole O-line was filled with 190-220 pound kids. They were like pitbulls.
