With Blake Bortles’ status for Thursday’s prime-time game against the Tennessee Titans uncertain, the Jaguars on Wednesday signed quarterback Stephen Morris from their practice squad.

Morris, a rookie free agent from the University of Miami, has spent the entire season on the practice squad. The Jaguars signed him shortly after the 2014 NFL Draft and he has practiced with the Jaguars all season.

He played under Jaguars offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch during the 2011 and 2012 seasons at Miami.

Bortles, the No. 3 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft and a starter since Week 4, sustained a mid-foot sprain Sunday against the Ravens. Head Coach Gus Bradley Wednesday said he liked how Bortles has progressed this week and that the Jaguars are leaning toward playing Bortles.

Bortles’ game status is expected to be decided a couple of hours before kickoff Thursday. He was listed as questionable on the team’s final injury report of the week Wednesday.

If he can’t play, backup Chad Henne will start.

Would be cool if Jedd gave him a couple of reps in there.

Or instead maybe we could say "congrats Stephen on your achievement, best of luck!" instead

Cool. that's one more NFL player that we can hold over goldens head for losing to every team with a pulse. lol

He's come a long way from a nobody three-star quarterback to getting NFL paychecks.

Outperformed nearly everybody that was ranked ahead of him in what turned out to be a horrible QB class of 2010.

You mean the 2010 class where the #1 QB was our backup QB in 2014?

Morris, Blake Bortles, Connor Shaw, Clint Trickett. Other than that just awful.

As each day passes facts refutes the claims the Golden had no talent. 4 players on the jags alone were on the roster when Al took over. 2 are starters...

He can make all the throws. Jedd had him playing his best ball so there is a chance he could stick.

Nice job Corley.

Yup. It made no sense that EJ Manuel was a 1st round pick while Morris went undrafted despite having more translatable NFL traits & upside. If they swapped colleges before the draft I bet the reverse would have happened.

Manuel can't get his job back from Kyle Orton and is on his way out of the league but at least Morris will get a shot at some point. Neither one possesses accuracy, timing or pocket presence but at least Morris can drive the ball down the field and evade the occasional free rusher. It always ****ed me off how Miami fans piled on Morris despite him never getting the chance to develop positional fundamentals and run appropriate pass concepts that suit his skills. The poor kid was thrown to the wolves as a true Fr and the coaches never fixed his bad habits so they only got worse. Manuel OtOH had 3-4 years to wait & learn his offense playing with incredible talent, and he still couldn't run it efficiently.

It's good to finally see some Canes ITT who recognize how ALL talent was wasted by the last 2 staffs. I hope it's not too late for Stephen.

Morris is never going to be a field general kind of guy on his own. But Fisch showed that with guidance, the kid has the tools to do the job. I like some things about Coley, but he doesn't strike me as being nearly as smart as Fisch was.

Unlike Golden and D'Onofrio, though, Coley doesn't seem too hung up on himself, and unwilling to learn. So maybe he can be redeemed.

I'm glad to see that the young man may have the opportunity to play. Hopefully he makes the best of the situation if his number is called.

Wish him the best. Would be nice to see Stephen throw a TD to Hurns this week.

Honestly he's probably the best player on that entire roster.

He's got a lot of upside, anyway. I haven't watched the Jags play much beyond highlights, but even Hurns seems to be playing his position better right now than Morris would if he were just plugged into a game.

This is going to be entertaining, a disaster waiting to happen.

*looks like Morris couldn't beat out an injured Blake Bortles. ;-)
