At this time last year, many on this board wanted Diaz gone. Now he had a great season and people are freaking out that he turned that into a HC job. Yeah it sucks to lose some recruits and the timing isn't ideal but let's hope that Richt takes his time and hires the best possible DC instead of rushing just to fill the position for recruiting.

At the end of the day, most believe you need to have prior HC experience to be a HC here so Diaz is now cutting his teeth somewhere else. We probably could've offered him a raise and title bump to associate HC but it's still not running your own program.

Everyone needs to relax and wait for this to play out and then we can freak out if Richt screws it up.

Miami should be the easiest place to flip a bad program. Manny flipped the defense in one year and made the defense the best in the land in 3! if Richt does the right thing in hiring the DC that fits and land an OC with him picking his own position coaches only then there's hope down the road! Yes things can flip from bad to great in no time IF done right, but it can also go the other way with a stubborn HC doing nothing on offense!

I was going to post this but thought there were enough threads already. Diaz had the defense playing well this year. Before this year it was a mixed bag. He is definitely replaceable. I like what he did and how he made our defense respectable again. But there are plenty of guys out there that can get the job done.

these people are lying dead in a valley getting picked at by vultures, stepped off the eldge a while back

As difficult as the last 15 years have been I will always follow my Canes and hold out hope for the comeback, I will admit that this year has been especially trying.

Is it OK for me to be at the edge of the cliff if I'm pushing Searels/J. Richt off of it?

Yes, it is. That would be called doing God's work, my friend.

But just make sure lilJon goes first. We want Searles landing on top of Jon and crushing him. If you send Searles off first, you risk him cushioning the fall of lilJon. We don't need no survivors from this little endeavor.

Happy Holidays!!!!!

... and who's to say Miami even winds up losing a ton of recruits if Diaz's replacement is a solid choice. Fact is, Miami's defense hasn't been in this good of shape in over a decade—making the job more desirable than it's been in a long time. Lots of guys would love the opp to coach-up this defense. Canes should land a nice hire here.

I'll repost what I said in another thread. Assume you're a good DC and Richt asks you to come to Miami now. You see a defense that's already been maxed out by Diaz on a team that's failing because of offense and the head coach refuses to do anything about it. Richt is likely to be fired if the offense isn't fixed next year, and you'll receive little to no credit even if you turn in a great coaching year because it'll be almost impossible to improve on this years's defensive performance. Sound like something you'd jump at?
