Has to be real. Sources within the Steelers can confirm that they believe Mario is the only coach that can win in Pittsburgh and there are concerns that without him the owners will not invest in the team.

Sources indicate Steelers front office may have expressed an interest in possibly interviewing Manny Diaz. Officials are familiar with his work as Penn State DC as well as his leadership skills displayed during his time at Temple. Also see him as a developer of QBs.

Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes are only a few days removed from their College Football National Championship loss to the Indiana Hoosiers.
However, it didn’t take long for Cristobal’s name to start popping up in NFL circles.
According to NFL analyst Brian Baldinger, the Pittsburgh Steelers have strong interest in Miami’s head coach and believe Cristobal could be a natural fit at the next level.
Cristobal is set to enter his fifth season with the Hurricanes in 2026–27 after taking over the program in 2022. Prior to Miami, Cristobal spent five seasons as the head coach at Oregon (2017–2021). Before Oregon, Cristobal was on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama from 2013–16, serving as assistant head coach and offensive line coach. He also previously served as FIU’s head coach from 2007–12 and held multiple coaching roles at Miami earlier in his career.
Here’s what Baldinger had to say on The Best Football Show:
“I’m not out here trying to play reporter or doing any of that nonsense,” Baldinger said. “But I hear the Steelers are very interested in Mario Cristobal, the coach at the University of Miami. I think Mario Cristobal would really translate to the NFL.
The way Mario coached that team reminded me of what old-school coaches used to do. They’re limited in the NFL with how often you can put pads on and hit, but they’re going to get after it. I think Mario could transfer to the NFL.”
For now, Cristobal remains locked in at Miami, but NFL interest is clearly starting to heat up.

If there was ever one job to worry about Mario leaving Miami for, it’s Pittsburgh. Anytime he gets a chance to discuss the Steelers, he does.

And as you all know, no college team is ever taking the Hurricanes HC, but NFL? That has been a constant pipeline since the 80s. If you have major success at Miami you get NFL HC job. PTSD from Butch saying he wasn’t leaving never leaves the back of my mind
