Stats that defined last season

Love our defense, but they need to improve as well.

BC and Wisconsin running it down our throats early in the game wasn't due to poor field position.
No unit on any team is perfect. The defense was lights out for >90% of the season. Sure there were a handful of occasions where they slipped but you'd be really nitpicking if wanted to pin the blame on them. **** even if they would have played well against Wisconsin and BC, they still would have lost. The offense was worthless.

The fact of the matter is, if the offense was even average, they would have won 11 or even 12 games last year. The only reason they didn't go 1-12 (savannah state was a gimme) was because the defense was one of the nation's best.

Only an offense away?

You're right, but that's kind of an important piece. Not like saying only a kicker away. Or only a dropped pass away. We were a whole **** side of the ball away.

Which unit needs more improvement the Offense or Defense?
Remember when yall used to argue with me in the offseason about how the Defense was more to blame for how the 2017 season ended... Ahhh good times.

You're an alright poster, but this **** is exactly why every thread turns into a *****ing session.

Nowhere did I say a **** thing about which side was worse.

Anyone can see the offense was more to blame.

Just pointing out the FACT that our defense has things to work on too, instead of just assuming that with a decent offense we're automatically an 11-win team.

Slow down.

The thread was how awful the offense has been, everybody knows the Defense isn't perfect & has areas that need to be improved but this thread wasn't about the Defense, it was about the offense.

Threads get derailed & turn into bhtiching sessions because people don't stay on topic, this thread was about the Offense you brought up how the Defense needed to improve & there's been plenty of threads on that very topic.

The Offense needs more work than the Defense & anybody that wants to nitpick the Defense can just like people did all offseason going into the 2018 season, but it turns out those of us who wouldn't let the offense off the hook were actually right.

The same sh*t happened all last year too (before the season started), every time someone started a thread trying to discuss the offense & what they needed to work on people immediately came swarming in talking about the Defense, despite the fact the Defense has carried this team for last 3 seasons.

Our fans hold the Defense to an impossible standard while rarely ever have anything more than bare minimum expectations for an offense that can't even produce better than a Peewee league team.

Please re-read my post.
You're getting emotional. It's the internet.

My point: Our defense as it was doesn't automatically get us 11 wins (as a poster claimed) with just a decent offense. We need to improve everywhere. Offense, Defense, Specials, Coaching, **** even the cheerleaders need to step up

Which is why this should be such an easy turnaround with competent coaching. Dummies see 7-6 and think we’re a hundred miles away.

Rickety and Co. were so fcking bad. Worst I’ve seen on offense at UM. Donnie Enos is going to take the offense and turn it around just like Diaz did with the defense.

Now, if Diaz can trust his DC to do the job, Diaz can focus on STs like most of the great college HCs do.

Great. Now show me the run defense stats. Like when Wisconsin or BC had no QB so they just ran up the middle for 300 yards using the same play over and over again.
I can show 2 years worth of our Defense stepping up & playing really well in big time moments, can you do the same with the Offense?

Why do our fans always brush off how bad the offense is & immediately point to the mishaps on the Defense? There's a mountain hill worth of evidence you can show in stats & on game film that our offense has been absolutely garbage, not even average, literally below average... Way way way below.

Let's address that first, we can get to the bhitchin about run Defense at another time.

2017 isn’t all that relevant here. The defense struggled in 2017 (as did the offense). To Diaz’s credit he fixed it. Meanwhile, Rick seemed to completely give up in 2018.

Gettin emotional how???

Lol I literally just responded to your comment, there was no emotion in anything I said.

Disagreeing is not getting emotional, I didn't insult you or say anything negative about you, that would be emotional lol

Brock, over under 10 wins this season?
Don’t really feel like making predictions again this year, I thought Heading into last season we would lose 2 games the whole season at most and was off

you have to fail pretty hard to have a season like that on offense with as much offensive talent Miami has had in years on O

The fact Diaz fixed proves that they weren't the problem from the start.

The most consistent part of the team since 2016 has been the Defense, they've steadily improved in every category every year, the offense has only gotten worse.

Enos has a much larger task of getting the Offense up to par rather than Diaz having to hand over the Defense to Baker to keep them within the same stronghold they've had under Diaz's reign as DC.

I'm confident Enos gets the job done & transforms the offense into being a competent competitive unit, but the nitpicking of the Defense from our fans every year is unfounded at this point.

I'd equate it to when Diaz took over for Donuts as DC. All it took was a quick change in philosophy and with essentially the same talent, the defense went from **** poor to pretty good in one year. I'm not expecting Enos to make the offense a juggernaut in year one but the tools are available to have a pretty solid offense next season. I mean, I'd settle for an OK offense at this point.

That Wisconsin game is meaningless. The team had clearly quit on rick by that point and didn’t show up for the bowl game. When you no-show against a tough, grinding power-running team like Wisconsin you get embarrassed.

Your first sentence makes no sense. If the defense wasn’t a problem in 2017, then Diaz wouldn’t have had anything to fix.

Recognizing, like Diaz did, that the defense struggled in 2017 doesn’t mean we’re excusing the offense. The offense being worse doesn’t mean the defense was on point. Pretty simple. Guys who claimed the offense was great were just morons trolling.

With the talent we get here, we should have a top 10 offense and defense every year. My expectations will never slide for either side.

I’ve been equating that since we went to the market for a new OC. I’m not going to settle for an ok offense this year. Too much material available against an inferior schedule to just be ok.

They were less of a problem than the offense because a slight adjustment took them from being a middle of the pack Defense to top 5.

A slight adjustment on offense wasn't enough to make them any better, they in fact got worse. The Defense in 2017 struggled on 3rd down & stopping the run, but overall was top 5-15 in 4 different categories, the offense hasn't cracked the top 30-40 in ANY category in 3 years.

You’re arguing against ghosts, little brother. No sane person thinks the defense was a bigger problem. It was an issue though as some really average QBs proved.

I give Diaz all the credit in the world for not accepting good and not blaming everything on the offense after 2017. Instead, he did an honest self-evaluation, and fixed the major issues.

This bodes well for us having him as HC because he’s not going to be happy with good on offense or defense.

I think part of that was due to how things went all season. I posted that after the UVA game, you saw the team just deflate. Even in the BC game, the defense made adjustments in the 2nd half and the offense remained putrid.
