State Of Florida Power Rankings - Week 4

Matthew, why are you ranking Miami below UCF? Do you really think they're the better team? Asking for a friend.
UCF needs to play someone first. Best win in the last year was against an Auburn team that didn’t want to be there.

That's my opinion too. As Richt says, if you want to be the man you have to beat the man. Has UCF beaten any of the Big 3?

I am not a blind homer by any means but Miami would be favored over UCF on a neutral field. Even though I hate FSU and think they're trash, they would be favored over FIU on a neutral field.

What has UCF done this year? They’d be an 8 win team in a P5 conference.

They keep winning. The game is played to win. There is nothing wrong with giving them credit for it. I remember the Dolphins being underdogs to the redskins in the super bowl capping the Perfect Season. Everyone said they played weak schedule. Joe Willie pick Miami saying, “undefeated is underfeated, I don’t care if you play the little sisters of the poor”. Or something like that.

They should have had Bama’s spot in the playoffs last year. Sure they would have gotten creamed but they earned the spot and Bama didn’t even win its division. If this was the system in our glory days, Miami would have played rematch with noles or Sooners every year for the title plus one with ND. We might have won 10 or 12 titles. Then again we might not had ever got our first shot against NE.

1. UCF
2. Miami
3. USF
4. FAU
5. FIU
6. Stetson
7. Florida Tech
8. West Florida
9. ASA College
10. Carol City
11. FSU
12. UF

You can switch UF & FSU at 9-10, but I hate UF more so they'll alway be last on my list regardless of their record.

FIFY

Good list but you missed a couple

You don't earn a spot in the playoff after playing one P5 team all year and that team being Maryland. UCF had zero business being in the playoff last year and that's why they weren't even in the discussion. The purpose of a power ranking is to say who would beat who on a neutral field. That's why it makes no sense to put UCF ahead of Miami at this point simply because they're "consistent". How they're "consistent" despite having a new head coach and playing two terrible teams is something that escapes me. Miami would be favored by two TD's against UCF and there's not much more to say about it.

If you're going to put teams in the playoffs based on record alone (since the point is to win, right?), then Western Michigan should have been the #2 playoff team in 2016. Fortunately, most of us know that it would be retarded to put Western Michigan or UCF in the playoffs just because they won all their games. This isn't the NFL with 32 teams and should never be compared to a major league playoff system.

At this point it's pathetic that Miami isn't #1. Uf and fsu are trash and Miami still isn't #1? Lmao. Pathetic.

That would be more acceptable if a teams that don’t win there conference are eliminated. The cool thing about football is every game matters, now it is just what teams get to play Bama because they are given a bye every year. Hey, if this was 1986 I’d love it. Miami would have been in the playoffs every year until we ran out of Butch recruits the first time. We would been in rematches with FSU, OU or ND every year. Heck PSU might not have got a shot at us.

I’m old fashion and think “better” is determined on the field not Vegas. Why play?

I think better is determined on the field as well, but you can’t stack a G5 team’s resume against a P5 team’s and say they are equal. If you don’t play quality opponents in meaningful games, you don’t deserve to be considered better than a team that does and then loses those games.
