Riiiiiight. The admin refused to allow him to hire an OC.
That lazy sucky coached managed a win over Urban, Dabo and Nick Saban. He also won two SEC titles and more SEC East titles while winning over 80% of his games.
I honestly believe he "promoted" them because he knew he was done. Richt wasn't green or stupid but looked completely different than when he started just 3 years prior. He had clout to get a top DC but probably just assumed whoever was coming after him could do the legwork.
retired because he knew our Admin was killing the program and there was no way he could save it.
"It's a mess down here."
They were already in a contract and all of this happened very close together. Either way, I don't think Miami is paying both of them coordinator money and Baker. If that’s really true that he promoted Banda and Patke to the co-DC job because he knew he was retiring (seems like a stupid theory to me although it’s not the first time I’ve heard it) , keep in mind that Miami probably had to pay Banda and Patke DC salaries this year because of that decision.
If Richt felt he was doing us a favor by not announcing his retirement until after early signing day, he should have just pretended to be doing a DC search and not actually hired anybody.
He was a very good coach but was time for him to do something else.He retired because he was lazy and sucked as coach.
He wanted to have a staff with his son as QB coach, and Banda and Patke as co-DCs. He retired because the admin rose a stink about that.

Baker has to be getting a full DC salary for him to come, he already was one. Patke was "demoted" from co-dc but was given special teams. Banda still has the title but in name only. My guess is they both got a little more than last year for extra duties and Baker makes the full DC salaryBaker and Patke signed a contract to be co-DCs at Miami in 2019, but essentially got demoted before the season began.
I don’t see how Baker and Patke didn’t get DC money. Coaching contracts go into effect when they’re signed, not when the season begins. For example, we had to pay Temple a buyout for Manny, even though he had never actually coached a game there.
What I hope is that Baker and Patke were only getting half of a regular DC’s salary, since they were each only supposed to be half-DCs in the first place.

PREACH!!!!!! Life is worth living.
Dude almost retired before he even came back home to Miami. 15 years in the SEC as a head coach and a decade prior as an offensive coordinator at Florida State—the man was tired, ready to hunker down with his wife and to go into missionary work.
His alma mater called, he listened and knew that if he took a year off the opportunity wouldn't be there if and when he was ready to get back into coaching.
Administration aside, Miami had been in a decade-long run when he showed up. Dove in to see if he could get things turned around the task proved more time-consuming and uphill than originally expected.
Would've had to give up play-calling duties—which he was excited to resume after leaving Athens—as well as firing his own son to bring in a proper offensive coordinator.
Richt's influence led to the indoor practice facility getting built, changed UM's thinking on more money for assistant coaches and he turned things around nutrition- and training-table-wise.
Again, another fan-fueled narrative because they don't like the admin situation from the outside looking in.
Richt retired because he coached at the highest level for 25 years, was ready to hang it up and after three years trying to resurrect his alma mater—which had been a disaster since a few years after he arrived at Georgia—he realized he didn't want to double down to work twice as hard to fix it and preferred to ride off into the sunset.
End scene.
Manny kept them and they suck. Those are Manny guys, Rumph was Richt guy. Blake Baker is his buddy from La Tech and he sucks, actually Manny brought Patke and Banda with him. The only guy left from CMR is Rumph. All of the other assistant coaches are Manny guys and they suck. But Manny is gonna fix it all, once and for allIt still blows my mind that was even considered at all. Making Banda and patke co-DCs. Zero qualifications for either to be named DC, so just name them both co-DCs. Officially iirc. This was also their decision same time as the 11 minute coaching search. Total amateur hour.
It's almost like Richt was trying to get fired so he could get his buy-out and the admin still wouldn't do anything lol. He's Like "what do I have to do to get them to fire me? I won't fire my son, I actually hired these 2 bozos as DCs-***** it I quit just keep the money"
That.....and the fact that he wouldn't sh*tcan his kid "leading" our QB room.
Was never a fan of old Kirby Haircut and Shawn Eichorst but makes me wonder if they didn't see the writing on the wall and got the **** out of dodge.
He checked out. If anyone knew what this could be, with or without the administration, it was him. He had total control of his program, all the way down to uniforms. He did a fine job.... his failings were on him.retired because he knew our Admin was killing the program and there was no way he could save it.

I got two little ones and I count the minutes, since every one is precious.Yup.
People sometimes forget that. Before they know it, they missed out on too much and life has just passed them by.
I could switch to a position in what I'm doing right now and make 20 to 30k more a year. I would then miss out on so much of what the kids do it just wouldn't be worth it. Forget about making the kind of money Richt has, I would've been done 5 years or more before he was.
The one thing you can never get back is time. Man, what I would do to have my kid and step kids in my life earlier. I became a first time father at 38 and get sad when I think I only have x amount of years with them.
