Starting Db's

I think TRob leveraging for the entire secondary room is huge. Reason being he knows his CB numbers are low you see guys like Tae/Gil and you can use them as CBs, be it at Nickel or the boundary but it'll be his job to deploy these guys in the way that puts them in the best situation to succeed. What'll be interesting is seeing will we let that wildcat/striker role be part of the secondary or part of the LB room? Makes a big difference. In a 4-2-5 you'd see the STR role part of the secondary thus meaning TRob gets guys like Chase Smith maybe even Huff added to his room.....ton of STR/Safeties but with good coaching you can see a guy transform from an okay player to a STUD....

Bolden
Hall
Carter
Balom
Tae
KWashington
KSmith
Gil
Chase
Ivey
Blades
Couch
Dunson
Clarke
JWill
Kinchens
MCurtis

Hopefully we can add a 2021 CB recruit and a portal CB.....we'd be in business boys
**** from what I can recall everyone was a 4 star in at least one recruiting service except Curtis (cause of size),Carter, and Balom and you forgot Jalen Harell who was a 4 star. We got talent let’s not kid ourselves!! We just gotta coach em up!

Thank you sir. I remember seeing this when you posted it. Have you heard anything recently? I agree with everything you said as Clarke has the best physical tools, and hands, out of the DB group. He also looked to be in the hip pocket of the WR most times i saw him out on the field.

The major issue with this secondary is roster management, we've at least 12 (Safeties/Strikers) and 1-2 CB's. BTW, I'm including Blades and Ivey with the safeties and strikers.

Why? They are corners
They were recruited as corners by all the teams that wanted them
Blades was second team All ACC

Blades, it's based on his athleticism. He can play them all, a good thing. He may be viewed as a better safety prospect than at corner. If he was on a tier 1 team, he would've played all over the secondary instead of just being exclusively used at corner. Also, he played S at STA because they had corners in place.

Ivey isn't good at corner. You better off trying him at different position.

Yep! Marcus Maxey AKA "The Pad" doesn't get enough credit for the excellent senior year he had in 2005. Maxey and Jennings AKA "The Club" were one of the top CB tandems in the nation in 2005. Jennings is "The Club" because of that huge arm cast he wore on the field back in 02. That thing was so damned big that it looked like he was chasing guys with a giant club in his hand lol. I remember Jennings chasing down Cedric Houston from the other side of the field to prevent a touchdown on the 1st play from scrimmage. It looked as though Jennings was running after him with a club so he could beat him with it lol.
I see where you are going with this but give a better example. Maxey, IIRC, was a pretty good athlete. Had speed, hips, change of direction. Ivey from what I have seen is not in that caliber of athlete. Stiff, slow, etc.

But yes, maybe Ivey can put the tools he does have to good use and maybe have a good Sr year here.

Actually I wasn't thinking of Ivey at all. You are correct. Ivey doesnt have the athleticism to be the type of CB Maxey was in 2005. Ivey's ceiling is a serviceable zone corner. Just reminiscing about a time when we had good CB play and being juvenile while doing it lol "The Pad". That still cracks me up to this day. Don't know why but it just does. There was a Cane site called "Canesoverhere" over 10 years ago. They had this huge glossary of nicknames for players. Darnell Jenkins was "Scimmage Jenkins" Cyrim Wimbs was "PM Dawn". Andrew Bain was "The Toddler" Marcus Maxey was "The Pad" Rob Chudzinski was "The Cleveland Steamer" and I think Kyle Wright was "Justin Timberlake". It was quite entertaining.

I'm suprised there wasn't a thread on it already, lol. With T-Rob on staff, I'm good with M. Curtis at CB.

As of now, here's my projection:

CB: Blades
CB: Couch
Reserves: M. Clarke and/or G. Frierson (3rd CB) and M. Curtis/I. Dunson

I think D. Ivey may transfer.

FS: Bolden
SS: Hall
Reserves: J. Williams, A. Williams, K. Kitchens, B. Balom

I think J. Harrell gets move to Striker and A. Carter transfers or move to LB (should've been there since 2019).
It’s going to be interesting bc that dumb a$$ Banda over recruited the position. MFer was clueless about roster mgmt.

No he doesn’t.

He’s stiff hipped, slow & has no football IQ, he’s unfixable.

He’s just not good enough to be a P5 starter.

Blades has tools to work with & can be improved, but Ivey is a lost cause & an overall bad eval, he is not a good Corner & there’s just no two ways about it.
Truth! I never liked Ivey in high school.

Cornerback: Stevenson, Couch, Blades, Dunson, Clarke, Curtis

Safety: Bolden, J. Williams, A. Williams, Kinchens, Balom, Harrell, Washington

Striker: Frierson, K. Smith, C. Smith

Preferably out of my sight: Carter, Ivey, Hall
