Stanford star EDGE David Bailey

They said him and Bain both had short arms at the combine.

He had "short" arms. Bain had 1st percentile arms. Massive difference.

(No, I'm not saying massive difference in the players they will be, their production, etc. But the difference in their arm lengths is massive, in terms of the NFL. Bailey's arms are on the short end. Bain's would be among the shortest, if not the shortest, of any great edge player in the NFL in the last 20 years.)

Me personally, I think that’s all overrated. Does it help to have longer arms? Sure. But it’s not the end all, be all. I’ve seen plenty of “athletic freaks” flame out in the league because they didn’t have the cerebral part of the game figured out. They think they can walk into an NFL game and keep relying on athleticism like they did in college, but they come up against veterans and coaches who’ve seen guys like them come and go, so they know how to handle them. Shemar Stewart is a perfect example. Dude looks like he was built in a lab to be a DE. But that’s all. Zero pass rush moves, no rhyme or reason to his game, just wings it. So far, he’s been a total bust.
