Do you believe the University Legal Department would respond in such a way?

There is a thread in this forum in which a poster has claimed to have a letter written by his attorney and sent to UM. He claims in an official response from them they said:

"* Thank you for being alumni and spending over $600K over 20 years but frankly we have people who give that amount yearly, so your dollars don’t matter. "

I'd just like to know if you believe this actually happened.

Thanks

Who knows. The entire response in the OP seems like it could be legit. Obviously it was summarized, and with the OPs comments included. Who knows.

If they did respond and it did say something to that regard then he's probably paraphrasing - or at least I'd hope.

Think it is BS though.

If there was a letter and a response, the response was paraphrased or otherwise interpreted to fit the OP’s agenda. I doubt the school would bother with a reply if $600K spent over the last 20 years is too small to matter.

Yeah, that was basically my point to him. It was laughable that he thought $600K over 20 years means much to the University of Miami.

He said 600k over a 20 year span which included his tuition amounts. 40-50k a year around that time for tuition and then 16 years after is around 25-30k a year in donations, season tix, whatever else he's claiming as money to the university like apparel purchases, away games, flights blah blah blah. Yea, they're right that isn't crap compared to what other people give annually.

0.8% chance that they would actually respond and 0.0% chance they would write in that tone (it sounded like something you would)

And we aren't talking $600k in donations. He's doing this meaningless calculation of all he spent on Miami including his degree. Gtfo! Congrats you spent a sh-t ton of money going to college in coral gables and due to your interest in the football program. So did I and Im sure a ton of others here. The difference is I didnt have a lawyer write a letter to them thinking i warranted some great response or action.

All sounds like a bunch of ridiculous ego boosting sh-t, IMO. Very ghey.

There is no way they wrote those exact words. The fact is, a typical undergrad will spend roughly $100K on tuition without any additional donations to the school. So if I were to say "I spent $100K on your school, now do exactly as I say," I would firmly expect the school to either not respond or tell me to kick rocks.
