Apparently some of you have never been to Wrigley Field or Fenway. Some places have enough history that you can improve on the old infrastructure to bring it into the 21st century. Pretty sure the BoSox and Cubs have had the 2 longest championship droughts in American sports, so have filled stadiums are a lame excuse. Yeah , the OB wasn't exactly state of the art, but few venues in America rock like that old girl. Parking? I had zero problem with "20 dolla no blockie". The walk to the stadium just had a crescendo to it. It was a ****** party unlike anything else in SoFla. It was a shame to see her go in place of that Marleens abomination with that joke of a center field statue. The west end zone with the sea breeze and view of downtown was amazing.

That said. The upgrades to Joe Sun Pro Player Life Landshark Robbie stadium look amazing, and I can't wait till I can get back down there for a game.

Why do people bring up the Orange Bowl every time we talk stadium upgrades? It was awesome but it's been gone for almost ten years. Move on.
 
The OB could have been repaired, upgraded and renovated plenty of times. It never was. It was left to fall apart.

Just saw a post, and it was dead on. It's been almost ten years. To make it worse, we said goodbye by laying down like cheap $2 whores, losing 48-0 to a very average Virginia team.

I've been to almost all canes home games since the late 80's, so I've probably been to the OB more than most people that post here except the older folks. So I say this without any guilt: Fūck the OB. It's dead and buried. Turn the fūcking page.

None of these nostalgic gimps were at that rainy Rutgers game in the mid 90s when there were at most 2,500 silent mummies in the stands. These guys crack me up with their weepy nostalgia over a ****** stadium that was often empty.
 
I'm confident that the roof will make Son Life feel like home. We shared a stadium with the Dolphins for decades and it was never a big deal.
Now that this stadium has been updated it shouldn't feel so stale. Every notable college team has a great stadium.
Seminole Hard Rock Stadium might never be Jordan-Hare or Death Valley but it should be night and day now with the ruf.

The problem was that the City of Miami, who owned the stadium had no interest in renovating it. The University didn't own it, and they weren't interested in buying it, for good reason. Taxpayers had approved of a financial package that would have covered some much needed renovations, the City disregarded that and gave the site to the Marlins. One more thing, the Cubs have STUNK for the better part of 100 years. Wrigley may be a nice place to watch a game, but it hurt them in regards to the on field product. They couldn't land premier free agents(The locker rooms and stuff were seen as outdated) and due to them not having lights, their teams usually flamed out by mid July(Remember the 1969 team that fell apart down the stretch), and the lack of additional revenue streams forced the Wrigley family to sell the franchise. We all look back at the OB with reverence, but remember the following: IT WAS CONCRETE. That's all it was, a building built to house a lot of people for a short amount of time. It wasn't the building that made the 'Canes, it was the people who took an interest in the program who made that happen. If Richt does his job, and the 'Canes start winning, Sunlife will start rocking, AND the school stands to make **** good money from enhanced ticket sales and additional premium seating options. With more revenue, the athletic department can give Richt and his staff the financial support it needs in order to consistently compete. That wasn't going to happen at the OB, even after extensive renovations, it was destined to be outdated.

What's hilarious is that a lot of these facilities that people point to as great are complete pieces of crap. Memorial Stadium in Lincoln has bathrooms out of the thirties, Jordan Hare looks like it's ready for demolition, outside of the big money booster areas. Miami has the most modern playing facility in college football right now. It's not particularly close.

Tough places to play though. We had an advantage with the OB that will likely never be duplicated.
