I know we are in the middle of the Al Golden firing/non-firing saga, but as a second gen Cane fan, something drives me crazy.

Every single thread about the stadium always mentions something about "Coral Gables will never let it pass, blah blah" ad nauseum.

NEWSFLASH: The UM campus is at the VERY EDGE of Coral Gables. See, there's this road called 57th Ave, and on the other side of it is NOT Coral Gables.

That area may be South Miami, Glenvar Heights, Unincorporated Miami-Dade, or whatever, depending on where you are. There is even subsidized housing in the area, as well as machine shops and car repair places.

It's not completely outside the bounds of possibility that a stadium could be situated there, with some creative design and the introduction of access to the metro and some affordable housing thrown in.

Will it happen? Probably not. But it's not in motherfriggin Coral Gables, and you can still consider it on campus stadium!

Fire Al Fuggin Folden...one disaster at a time.

You bring butch back and watch us double our actual attendance next year. Im not talking about sold tickets I'm talking butts in the seats attendance.

yea and in those areas that you mentioned are houses and other businesses so unless you want them to tear them places down i dont see that happening, but i dont live there and if they want to they can go right ahead i aint complaining

I live a block away from UM. There is literally no land to build a stadium. Closest option is Tropical Park, which is a short drive from UM and smack in the middle of Dade County.

There is land, the problem is there is currently housing/shops etc on that land.

Money can fix that issue.

future....the issue is logistics.

57th avenue is one lane. It could never in a million years handle the traffic that gameday would bring. US1 is already a parking lot on a random Tuesday at 2PM...can you imagine if you inject 40-50K people on a gameday?

I don't want to say never, but for as much as I would LOVE to see it happen in Coral Gables...it's a longshot.

Tropical Park is the answer. You could make an on/off ramp directly from the Palmetto to the stadium. Bird Road is also right in front of TP and at least provides 4 lanes in each direction.

UM should be buying up property in an around the campus periodically esp. during economic down times. This land can always be used for future development by the university. I know TCU does this regularly and expands their campus with dorms, parking lots, ect.

So if they're going to do it then that's where they have to go. I'm all in on Zo's campaign because he's spot on. Just need to know where to send a check. Let's get a new coach and let's get the $25MM campaign going. That's the priority. We have an on campus basketball arena and we couldn't sell out for the ACC/Big Ten gig against a ranked Illinois team. It is what it is...

Miami doesn't need an on campus stadium. A trip to Tropical Park from campus is 5 minutes on a Saturday. Give me a 55k seat stadium with the seats right on the field, designed like the Orange Bowl and I'm thrilled!

Where was all that endangered land they sold to WalMart?

If you're gonna murder off a bunch of species at least put a stadium on it.

What are they gonna bulldoze peoples homes for a stadium?

Yeah, they're going to eminent domain for a private school.

The supreme court made this legal a few years ago.

As we both know, with south florida politicians, its all about who and how much.

I got all that, but you need a location that has access. When I was down there last year I about slit my wrist getting from downtown Miami to San Amaro Drive via US 1 around 2 pm on a Friday before the Florida game.

you have your heart in the right place but even in the near gables / south Miami.. whatever. do build a stadium you need allot more space then just the actual stadium.. you need space for parking.. you need proper roads in/out.

Logistically it is a nightmare to plan and build a stadium near campus. The OB was at a perfect location. the properties around there actually preferred a stadium in their back yrd.

the only way it to have some sort of addition to "Marlin Park" or jump in with some soccer stadium.

Soccer stadium announcement soon. Only realistic chance for a stadium is to be attached to that project.

Sunset place lost the virgin megastore , niketown , urban outfitters etc

Sunset place is huge , next to the dormitories , us1 , metro rail , palmetto etc...

Tear it down and that would a great place for a 40k person stadium

That's pretty much what FIU is doing in Sweetwater. Buying up a ton of property, tearing it down, and building high rise condos for students.
