Stadium design

Why do you think the Marlins aren't long for this world? They have a sweetheart rental agreement with MDC courtesy of Luria (how that dude isn't in jail for fraud, I have no idea). The new regime is following the Luria template for being profitable. Take the luxury tax money from the MLB, pocket most of it, and put out the only AAA team in the majors. As they discovered, the Marlins under Luria were not losing money each year as he had claimed to MDC, but was making money every year. The new regime even sold Jeter a bill of goods, as soon as they showed they too were going with the Luria template, Jeter was out.

That ship has sailed though. And I know this is sacrilege on this site, but it's actually a great place to watch a baseball game. Now, if they could just find ownership that can actually afford a team....

Anyway, unless some boosters with deep pockets are willing to buy land and build a stadium, Hard Rock is home.

Can you or anyone else in the know explain how Luria fleeced MDC? I’ve heard this multiple times, but not sure the specifics or details.

Has anyone considered trying to get Trump involved? Doesn't his granddaughter go to UM? Let me make some calls.
I think he’s probably busy dodging assassin bullets and saving America, but Bezos can’t possibly be doing anything remotely more important than this rn

Basically, when the Marlins were negotiating with MDC to move out of JRS/Pro Player/Hard Rock in the late '00's, Luria had claimed the Marlins were losing money every year at the old stadium, even when he slashed payroll after the '03 World Series. So, he went hat in hand to MDC, crying poverty, saying that he needed a baseball only facility that would allow the Marlins to keep the majority of the concessions, parking, etc. which he had to split with Huizenga at the time as he owned JRS/Pro Player/Hard Rock.

MDC fell for it, gave him a sweetheart deal where the city and county paid for the majority of the stadium and the Marlins would be locked in for 30 years. Then, after the stadium opened, an audit was performed on the Marlins books and found that the Marlins had in fact been profitable during that time period and that they had kept the MLB luxury tax money they had been receiving every year off the financials they shared with MDC.

To add insult to injury, as part of moving into the new stadium, he promised to increase payroll, which he did.....for like a season or 2. He then traded away anyone of value on the roster, including all-stars like Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich. The heat finally got to Luria and he sold the team for $1.2B to the group of owners led by Jeter. However, they too have decided to go the way of Luria by trading away young talent when their contracts are coming up so Jeter ditched them in '22.

30 years you say. So we got 10 and change left? Bezos can buy out the last 10 and make a new orange bowl.

Donate it all to the University and use it as a massive tax exemption to use whenever he sells more Amazon stock. Brain dead obvious playbook.

It was a joke of a deal when It went down.... Loria came to Miami for pennies and left with a billion while the city absorbed the debt... Just blatant dumb****ery across the board...
