On Friday, I took in the St. Thomas Aquinas vs. Royal Palm Beach Class 7A, Region IV final.
While St. Thomas Aquinas was the favorite heading in, (and ended up beating the opposing Wildcats 52-7) there were numerous Miami Hurricane targets/commits on display.
St. Thomas Aquinas:
The Aquinas offense was simply dominant. The offensive line took control of the game from the very start. The line's dominance led to easy runs for 2015 Miami running back commit Jordan Scarlett. Scarlett was only needed in the first half but still managed to record eight carries for 117-yards and three touchdowns.**
2016 Miami wide receiver commit Sam Bruce also only played the first half and was only targeted twice throughout the night. His only catch on the night gained six yards.
2016 defensive end Nick Bosa is the high school J.J. Watt. Bosa gets off the ball so quickly and is in on nearly every play. One of the most fun players to watch in all of South Florida.
Royal Palm Beach:
2015 Miami linebacker commit Charles Perry spent most of the night on the offensive side of the ball lined up at running back where he did a nice job but he definitely needs to bulk up a bit if he wants to see the field in Coral Gables come his freshmen year. Size aside, Perry is athletic and has a nice nose for the ball.
2017 quarterback Toddy Centeio is a stud of an underclassman. He has done well enough to earn a 'Canes offer early in his recruiting process. Throughout the season he has been making great throws and leading his team. However, he faced the best defense he will ever face in his high school career on Friday and he made a few errors. Centeio throws a great ball but must put on size and improve in his decision-making. He has a bright future ahead of him.
