Spring QB battle

For as bad as people rip Richts play calling honestly the games I saw in person our guys we’re wide open for 4 quarters. At the Pitt game they were literally standing by themselves waving their arms. I just think we need the right triggerman to get it to them. Very interested to see who wins the job.

I just hope its not won by default like last year.

in what way was it won by default this past year?

It means we had no no other viable option to start at QB, other than Rosier.

Perry enrolled too late, and was too skinny ... Weldon proved he was FAR from ready to compete, even enrolling early ... And Shirreffs shouldn't even be on the roster as a scholarship QB.

That results in Rosier winning the job by default.

still butt hurt about being so wrong, eh?

time to move on brother, let it go.

LOL ...

How was I wrong?

My entire argument was that Shirreffs wasn't really a candidate to be the starting QB ... And IF he was, it was more about Rosier being "not that good" than Shirreffs being a quality option.

The season showed that to be the case.

Rosier was a "gamer", and did some nice things. But he's not the QB that can take this program to the next level. And Shirreffs was ... The QB I thought he'd be.

I'd love to see Perry or William get it. We've already seen the very best that Rosier is capable of... I give him credit for what he accomplished...BUT I'd be lying if I didn't say that our offense last year wasn't painful to watch.

I'd rather have hot sand poured into my eyes than revisit our last three games offensively. My greatest fear is that Rosier who is very streaky gets hot in the Spring or late Summer, wins the job, then let us down big time when needed the most AGAIN.:ambivalence:

Hopefully Perry or Williams or ANYONE else can play well enough to just TAKE the job. We'll be much better off that way because IMO Rosier has already given us the best that he is capable of. So congrats Malik but its time to move on

If Perry isn't good enough to win this gig, then we might be in trouble unless Williams is a phenom. Williams looks like an excellent prospect, and all-star games aren't a great way to judge players, but he didn't jump out at me in that game. The young QB going to USC, on the other hand, did.

We need a dynamic QB to emerge. That's for sure. When's the last time we had a QB that we won because of and not in spite of?

Need a QB who can progress through reads quickly and not get tunnel vision. The one huge difference when Alabaga swapped in Tua was that he saw the field better than Hurts and didn't panic when his first read wasn't there.

I hate to say this, but I think Rosier's issue is more between the ears than anything. You have to admit when he was "on" he looked great, the TD pass to Cager in the OB was great athletic play, if that Rosier was the one we got on every snap I'd take that in a minute.
I'll be interested to see how he responds, he had his dirty laundry thrown all over the place and has taken serious heat from the fans over the last month.
May the best man win.

I love Rosier but we gotta get some new blood in there to start against LSU. Perry should be more than ready. Williams will have enough practice to take it if he wants also. I can't do another year of Rosier. It got to the point where I would jump out of my seat and get hyped every time he completed a pass for a first down. Please no more.

Better than throwing my chair at the TV like the QB before him.

You really are an Angry Ibis

Do we have a spring game this year that I can watch?

There will be a spring game at Hard Rock this year.

Looking forward to the QB competition. Perry should be ready to take the reins but I would not count out Williams. He was lights out against top level competition in high school and as an early enrollee, he should at least hold his own come summer/fall. I think Rosier is an ideal backup QB. He's an upperclassmen who knows the system and won't kill you if you need him in a pinch. I'd just prefer not to have to rely on him as our starter next year.

As long as its not Rosier or Shireffs, I don't care. **** give Williams a RS, and let Perry and Weldon battle it out during the season for all I give a ****. And of the 3 freshman will be better for us this season and in the future

I like Williams best in the all star game I saw him go through progressions and he has my money on him to win the job

I’d bet big money on Perry

Perry was reportedly the recruit Richt prioritized above all when he first got here.

Richt refused to name a starter until Perry got on campus.

Richt wanted Perry to win the job last year. This year, I think Perry’s ready (enough) to do so.

He refused to name a starter because he wanted to keep a fire lit under the guys in front of him. Once Perry arrived and Richt discovered he'd never watched film, I guarantee you he didn't want Perry taking the field. The FANS, who had no clue, were the ones begging for Perry to start right away.

Williams is an EE, and is coming in better prepared than Perry did. Perry's jump on Williams will not be a significant one. It will be a huge battle, and whichever QB gets it right between the ears AND makes plays will win the job.

Next year is all about Perry.

Rosier - nowhere near as talented
Sheriffs - should be a transfer candidate
Weldon - behind him on depth chart
Williams - a true freshman, albeit an EE.

If Perry can't beat out that crew next year, he's prolly not the guy.

Barton Simmons was very high on Williams after his performance overall. I thought He outplayed Trevor Lawrence once again too in that game.
This is what he posted
“But there’s more potential first-year starters at quarterback in this game. Jarren Williams, a Miami commit that is enrolling early, will have an opportunity to compete for Mark Richt. He was outstanding in San Antonio and very consistent. I expect Williams and 2017 signee N'Kosi Perry to make a legitimate run at Malik Rosier's job.”

Williams arriving early is huge, especially if he comes in better prepared than Perry did. I look for a darn good battle, with Williams earning Richt's trust faster than Perry did. It'll be a heck of a battle, and I won't be shocked if Williams wins the job. Not that Perry isn't super talented, but that Williams, to me, looks better prepared coming in.
