Spring PractiSe 12 - No Media Access and Interviews

What I will tell you is the last staff coming into last camp was alot higher on Jake. And honestly right now I'm still higher on Jake too. They both still have their share of pluses and minuses. But Jake's upside is huge. Tyler is definitely the better pure passer but that's assuming he keeps progressing. He still has ALOT to learn AS HE SHOULD. His intangibles and his leadership qualities are off the charts. But his progressions and intermediate throws, his pocket presence leave alot to be desired. It's very important to remember he hasn't even started a full season & he played in a very QB friendly offense against bad coaching and average talent throughout the conference. I'm praying he keeps progressing and becoming what we all want out of him. But expectations can break a kid easily when that pressure adds up. Let's just slow down on the anointment stuff a lil. Let's see what he grows into.
at this point, I wouldn't say hes a top qb in the country. he has the potential but lets see him without Rambo. another thing that concerned me is tvd struggled against FSU who during his run probably had the best athletes he faced. also, gattis has more than 15-20 plays, lashlee ran alot of the same stuff over and over. one thing is we have multiple qbs who can play. its a huge difference than in past.

people have some real revisionist history, for 2.5 quarters vs UVA he was very pedestrian. It really wasnt till about the NCST game that he started to turn the corner, and the game slowed down for him
You know how it is with qb’s . Then mix in this board being bipolar. He was trash one day then a god a few weeks later lol. Shocking a young qb improved as his snaps and reps improved.

He won’t be sneaking up on mofos this year , he’s coming into the season with a bullseye on his chest, he will be broken down like no other qb our opponents will face. Qb 1 has more pressure on him this year than any other year In his life. He has to keep improving to keep the job. That’s the positive of having a good qb behind him. Keep improving or else. Competition breeds excellence.

Tvd didn’t look like that in spring or fall Lol. He also didn’t look like that early on in his little pt. He had some moments against Virginia but nothing like what he became as the year went on. Nobody saw that coming.

King was easily the best option. Anyone that saw practice would tell you that. Maybe if we start Tvd early against Bama he takes some bumps but bounces back with the same season. But there’s the other side he gets overwhelmed and confidence is broken from the early schedule.

Imo the season worked out perfectly in the long run. The stars aligned. We lost enough to get manny fired , which got Mario before the huge buyout, but still had positivity going into the offseason with a returning stud qb. Tvd took his lumps and built confidence with no pressure in meaningless games.

Well, some of us saw it coming :p

I have 0 concerns of TVD's capacity to grasp a new playbook/offense. And the FSU game, the entire offense came out flat & sleepwalking through the first 2 quarters so I wouldn't place that entirely on TVD.

I would hope so because he's basically senile at this point. I love Vinnie because I've known him most of my adult life. But it's also very worriesome to me to see him in any sortve oversight position if it has power behind it. Because the things he's doing are borderline criminal
@Brooklyndee wasn't Scalvo at Southridge and Coral Gables HS??....I'm almost positive...He was an Asst under JJ as well I think.....MFer is an FSU Grad as well if I remember correctly....

He struggled vs FSU because we couldn't run the ball worth anything. 1.9ypc forced us to be 1 dimensional..he still threw for 4 TDs and 319yds (granted he had 47 pass attempts which is a lot).

I don't have the knowledge or the insight to disagree with anything you say, and I have to defer to you on the comparison between to the two. But if the sentence in bold is true, IMO it trumps any minor technical advantage Jake has over TVD. Don't you think? Those qualities in a QB are as important if not more important than the physical skills. Unless of course, Jake has the same leadership skills but is taking a back seat waiting for his turn?

I've said it before. Scaife should be at center. He's not built to stop rush ends at RT, and he's a good but not great OG. I think he has a pro future just at center. And that would solve our interior size issue a little too, as Clark is capped. So a quality RT portal kid would upgrade two spots, not just one.

I expect Zion to be really good this year, lock down LT. He isn't the day 1 kid some guys on here were claiming even when he was getting steamrolled as a true freshman. But he's got all the tools to be very good now. This is his time to shine.

Davis can be a great rush specialist. But he is not going to start at Miami as a DE. He's not so elite that he can overcome his height issues. Nothing wrong with being a specialist, we need one. But fewer snaps and no possibility to have a shot at the league. So if Davis wants to start, I agree with you that he needs to develop as an ILB.
Javon Nanton type career for Davis would be ideal...

Nope. Not buying it, Cause I was told ….. right here on CIS, that he didn’t deserve to have a scholarship offer from Miami. That he was heading for the portal as we speak. I also heard, right on dese here boards…. that he wasn’t a P5 player. Couldn’t play at this level. Now dammit, he outchea making plays? TF goin on?

That kid is an animal.

You can’t count guys like him out.

He's been with us since Howard's last year. ****** is ancient. Not sure about where he went to school or his history outside of the time with us.

That's the thing. Jake's intangibles and leadership and pocket awareness and mobility, he throws a dime on the run, kids love him and even as a back up they hella respect the kid. I'm not trying to **** on Tyler at all. I just don't wanna see our fanbase destroy this kid like they did with kaaya if he doesn't live up to all the expectations which have only been created by people who are unaware of the shortcomings. His best ability by far is he throws a gorgeous deep ball. But if all were depending on is a deep ball then we should expect plenty of losses cause as u saw with fspoo,Virginia,Carolina they just simply switched up to a 2 deep look and he was stuck with check downs on the regular. His biggest task needs to be developing those intermediate routes and reading defenses a **** of a lot quicker. Remember the difference is now our standard is elite. Potential doesn't match up with elite. Execution does...

People on here really just don't comprehend what they're watching. All I'm gonna say is thank God for those fans that Rambo and the deep ball combined with some very hurt up mediocre acc defenses came into account.
What are you saying with this? Do you believe TVD is being overrated on CIS because he had the admittedly very important advantages of a great receiver and mediocre defenses?

Unless we switched conferences and I don't know it he'll still have one of those advantages. As far as areas to improve well of course he's started less than 10 games. But we saw drastic improvement in season. **** even in the UVA game he came on late. Same against UNC and against FSU the only thing that kept him from killing that game off was Lashlee getting conservative on the final real drive. He wanted it out of TVD's hands quick and it cost us. We saw TVD improve rapidly. Not just from game to game. Sometimes from quarter to quarter. Early game issues don't rattle him. A missed kick against UVA and a tipped ball because of pressure against UNC robbed him of two final drive comebacks. Kaaya gets mentioned and thats funny because Van Dyke gets better as the game goes along and the pressure picks up while Kaaya was the opposite.

I really hope X makes the jump. He has looked good in practice video & limited snaps he's had. He looks really small as well, what is his actual height?
