Spot On Article

We aren't getting the #1 Spot back unless we finish the year with at least 10 more recruits signed than FSU and Bama and USC at the least. We are not going to out 5 star them, or even out 4 star them. An inflated class due to numbers doesn't do anyone any good, all it means is we will lead the country in attrition as all of the kids who shouldn't be at miami trickle out like Al's last 30+ commit class.

And frankly, I don't want the #1 spot until we prove we can stay there.

Trim the fat part is being as honest as can be, we have questionable commits right now to be real, he needs to be careful and add talent to the class not development players. So overall this class is legit though, but Golden still has to learn quality over quantity, said that all last year when we picked up guys like loftus (no disrespect).

Takes more than trimming the fat to win a recruiting national title. We need to replace those kids with 5* kids and high 4*. Top 150 kids. The Shavar Manuels of the world get you #1 rankings. I think our class is good. A possible top 10 class. The problem is that we will lose a few of our highest rated kids by years end. We would need to replace them with kids as good or better. I don't see that happening.

It's still early in the recruiting cycle.

We have 13 Four stars currently and 2 who should be four stars when comparing previous years of the amount of 4* ranked linebackers in Pinckney and Simmons and where they are ranked on some sites for LB rankings.

Then you got guys like Uche, Nelson, Gil and Wiggins who are versatile, athletic prospects that could sneak into low 4* with a great senior year.

If their is a questionable take, it's Moss but only questionable IMO if he's being brought in as a pure RB. If he's used as a FB/H-Back type here then the take is solid cause that's what he fits for his mold.

Good chunk of our guys are due for bumps as well.

Had went in depth on this in another thread today. https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/87363-Mike-Farrell-s-Thought-On-Swag-16

Holding on to our guys, their inevitable bumps which have been happening on sites already and adding more quality guys will get us the #1 ranking. And winning helps with this.

Here's a good example. Rivals has Allison, Richards and McCloud 3 stars. Yeah that's very accurate, lmao. Chad Thomas was a 3 star at this point in the cycle in 2014 class. It's still early.

For me. Evan Hinson ,Devin Gil, Uche are the only questionable takes. the others i feel are good enough to be here. for a lot of 3 star. your getting football players in them. Wiggins is like the pure unknown commodity. he hasn't even been seen before or after he committed but he has skill from his film.

Mentioned this in the other thread.

But as in reaches. I felt the only reaches are Nelson and Moss at this point.

Nelson because he's extremely raw. He has the size, strength, length and potential but he's very raw from the DE position. Would like to see his production and one of his games this year. I would have preferred to wait and see how he does hi senior year before taking him but looking from a projection standpoint I like the take for his attributes he has.

Moss is a major reach when it comes to pure RB but as I mentioned. If he's used at Miami as a FB/H-Back type then it was a solid pickup cause that's what suits him. He's a great blocker, good hands and some grit and toughness between the tackles.

James Wiggins and Devin Gil are two of the most underrated pickups we have.

Gil's future is LBer though. I don't think he's a safety. I think he could be a great WLB. Been mentioned that he has stood out on the field out of 4 and 5 stars in a lot of events and if I'm correct captured and MVP at a camp recently. He just happens to be a bit of a tweener.

Wiggins can play outside, in the nickel or at safety. Uber athletic and the kid is rock solid. Plays both sides of the ball. DMoney mentioned while watching a South Dade game that this kid stood out and was very impressive.

While Joshua Uche is raw at DE. He has put up the numbers though! and has size and speed you can't teach for his position. He's a future SLB. Just playing a different position at Columbus.

You gotta remember even if you feel their is a reach or two. If they don't pan out or project how the staff expects in their senior year. They will be dropped. It's not like the LOI is signed.

Only one I would drop would be Moss ONLY if we are taking him as a RB only. I'm all for taking him as a FB/HB

Nelson I would keep and see his production his senior year, he has things you can't teach at the position. If he doesn't pan out, oh well and you move on. We are not hurting at DE. It's ok to take a chance on a prospect like this.

I liked Hinson's film, I don't think he's a reach at all.
Versatile. I think he's a TE. BUT the kid missed most of his junior year and I believe he had like 7 sacks in 4 games and almost 20 TFL. That's a **** great stat line for only 4 games. Could be a TE or DE and he's a very good basketball player. Lot of recent TEs who played basketball have done very well for Miami and in NFL and others from other NFL teams. Clive played basketball before. Hinson is legit.

While Moss recently won a RB MVP at a camp. I was told from people who were there, they felt Robert Burns from 2017 was more deserving. Shaun Shivers from 2018 was the most impressive RB in 1 on 1 drills against DB's in the pass game.

I don't think Uche, Gil, Wiggins or Hinson are reaches.

Nelson I can understand that. I mentioned as well that I would like to see more production from him.

I did mention before that I would have rather waited on taking Uche despite his measurables cause he was playing a different position at DE than LB which is where I project him and take a look at guys like Donovan Thompson who's very productive or Lawrence Graham who had the highest sparq score for a defensive player at the Miami Nike Opening and he's strong as heck. But both are a bit on the smaller side at 5'10"-5'11"

BUT with the amount of linebackers we had already, I felt taking a superb athlete like Uche at the position with elite size and speed was a great take as he has been productive from the DE position regardless for Columbus.

I do remember people knocking jokes on Deion Jackson cause he had a temple offer and no film but he missed his whole junior year and he's blowing up now and locking down some of the top SoFlo WR's

It's still early. I see some guys some people are sleeping on blowing up as well.

Burnett had no stars when he committed. 4 star now. Process is still early.

Can some1 please name ALL the questionable commits please.

Nelson, simmons, gill, moss, and hinson. They are considered reaches imo cause there are other players out there like Aaron Thompson, Ty Peters or Nehemiah Augustus that are just simply better and probably would be committed to UM if Golden recruited them properly. Ty Peters is one I'm big on, guy nearly runs a 10.4 and is not really being recruited heavily. Uche is good, don't be blinded by his ranking, one of the best players we have committed, I hope this class sticks.

Even devin gil has michigan and louisville offers

Simmons has offers from tennesse, Nebraska

Rivals just wrote an article about 5 under the radar players and one was zach moss. They said will be "lucky" to keep zach moss commited after the offers start to roll in lol i bet if he does decommit people will be up in arms lol

Anyways ok thise are reaches but yall named 3 people out of 20.. lol where all the reaches at? all schools have players who are unranked at some point

3 out 20 tho ?!?!?!??!?!

meh. Most of the points are off base or "well duh"...

I think most sites only count the top 25 commits in a class, signing 30 guys isn't gonna increase the point total.

On the 247 composite... If the 5 guys listed in the article got those projected bumps, it will only be another 25-30 points increase. Shaq, Bruce, and Allison are already pretty high on the 247 composite, so Bumping them all to 5 stars only adds about 16 points.

Byrd and Jackson getting bumps to low 4 star adds about another 15-20 points. Those low ranked guys getting re-ranked is what will help, so with what Geo is saying maybe finishing top 5 is possible, but not without winning.

Regarding jumping FSU... If, Shavar Manuel, Mullens, and Craig-Meyers go to FSU, that is another 90 points, and thier lowest ranked recruit is Kier Thomas (who has a Bama and UGA offer), so they will get some bumps in the re-rankings too. Catching FSU simply isn't' gonna happen because teams always get a big recruiting bump the year after a National Championship. Keeping the "missile gap" close this year would be great for the next staff though.

Also, the "kids getting bumps when they commit to big schools theory" is an exaggeration. It happens to a degree, but something like 11 out of the last 12 National Champions had a 4 year averaged consensus top-5 class the year they won. The hard data doesn't fit the conspiracy theory.

If the big pay-sites are just handing out high rankings to big schools, then they are also coincidentally picking the National Championship winners 3-4 years in advance. So unless they have telepathy or something, how can that be explained if the rankings aren't relatively"accurate"????????????????????????????

And Jamel Cook is only a 4 star on 247, after dominating in a camp, so that and Scarllet aren't exactly a great example for that "bump theory".

Uche is far from a reach trust me the kid is good

Honestly i like all of our commits, richards being rated a three star on rivals is a dam joke

Agree with the majority. The only head scratchers so far are Moss and Nelson. Maybe Hinson.

Wiggins is a kid that 90% of the board would be nailing Al to the cross for not recruiting once November hits. And then he ends up committing to Michigan or Ohio State and the board goes into full meltdown. He is a great pickup. AND a local kid. Isnt this what we wanted Al to do all along? Stop going to GA and NJ for 3 star athletes when we have them in our own backyard?

Same with Uche. If we had slow played him and he had committed to ND, the board would have gone ape ****. Esp since it seems like there are a lot of CCHS alum on here.

Im really not worried about anyone elses class at this point. I love our class so far. There will be a few decommits and we will pick up some kids as well along the way. If we win next year we will pick up a lot.

Oh and btw, and I have said this 1000 times and I will keep saying it, but barring injury, it will be a dogfight to the end to hang onto Deion Jackson once his name gets out there and believe me it will.
