Sports Buzz: defensive scheme talk & jc jackson update

Larry Allen, the best OL to ever do it wasn't known for his power clean. It was his 700 pound bench press that moved interior linemen out of the TV frame!

Every post you interject in becomes an insufferable ****ing match. We get it your opinion is fact. Thanks for your contribution.

Go Canes!

Pretty confident this is the recently banned poster of a very similar name, the one that made the retarded thread about how the US government should be spending more money on high school football.

There are two or three cumbags who keep getting banned and coming back and spitting diarrhea.

Obviously, I am new to this site but I will say for the record I will not be bullied by you three. If the Admins on this site aren't bias then they should find at least two of you guilty of the following and should enforce its policy accordingly. With that said, if you don't like me then don't talk to me. I don't care to rub shoulders and kiss with you. Sorry but I'm just not into that.

Violating these simple rules is an infraction. Three infractions in ten days results in a three-day posting ban.

Number one, no racism
Number two, no intentionally posting false info. We'll call this the whoopingcane rule.
Number three, and this is the most significant: no personal insults.

Actually everyone is right in a way. But the real answer is all three of the following:

1) Bench Press Reps
2) Core - Sit Ups Max Times
3) Squats Max

The bench press test of 225 lbs is the best test to date to measure upper body strength of football players that play positions that have to use their hands, arms, and shoulders to make or defeat blocks at the snap of the ball. The number of reps of 225 measures endurance and the use of the muscle groups in the shoulders and arms. It also is a quick indicator of what your max bench is without wasting time evaluating each lift for over 100 guys.

Actual power comes from the hips and is best measured with squats. This test only measures the athletes lower body strength.

Abdominal strength (core) sit-up max times indicates how strong an athletes abdominal muscles are. The core is the link between leg drive and upper body strength.

So the best way to accurately measure a football players ability to apply his maximum strength, power and endurance over a sustained period of time is Bench press reps, squat max and sit up max times. The core is the center of the body which allows the football player to transition all of his power from both upper and lower body from a standing position to the point of contact.

Coach Swasey was highly sought after by NFL athletes because he mastered this philosophy.

Too bad he apparently couldn't master the certification that would actually allow him to be in the same room when the players were lifting.

Thank You, I will.... Apparently, some characters have run out of much needed Perparation H to help sooth the lingering irritations left from the boots of the last person they tried to bully. Behind every hard head trails a soft behind. So this should get interesting because they will be crying for an Admin soon. So get your popcorn ready!

Then why des the NFL use it at the combine if it's worthless?
It does if you're an OL/DL and you use your hands and upper body strength to shield and push other big dudes around.
Nope

ok
Must be why the top two tackles in the draft didn't bench at the combine. Or why the history of guys that put up ridiculous bench numbers is terrible.

They also ask a myriad of ridiculous psychological questions. Are you going to draft your franchise QB based solely on what kind of tree he thinks he would be? They test for bench press along with twenty other different things because making evaluations based on one thing is asinine.

For a Strength Coach that wasn't allowed to be in the same room when the players were lifting he sure sent a lot of football players to the league that tested very well at the NFL combine. Not to mention the excellent off season training of many NFL players that started their season in the best shape that they ever been in their entire career. So his accomplishments speaks for itself which he has much respect.

Unfortunately, we as UM fans don't seem to appreciate a good thing until it is gone or with some other team. First it was coach Don Soldinger, Matt Doherty and now Swasey. I hear Doherty is back but I just can't get over how loudly you clapped when he pushed out the door. Will you someday wish for the return of Coach Swasey? Time will always tell. Another thing is that as time goes on it shows that the root of the problem was not the S&C but poor coaching and scheme. Now, I don't blame Richt for cleaning house. But the way we as fans turn on our own is ridiculous.

Let me know how many guys go to work out with Swasey when he takes a job in North Dakota.

Funny thing is someone like you said a similar thing about Doherty and when they looked up he helped build one of the top classes in the nation in Michigan. So stay tuned. You may get what you're looking for.

How anyone can be surprised a new staff comes in and many popular and long time staffers get fired is astonishing to me. ****, Jerry Jones dumped Tom Landry. Cowboys went on to win a few Super Bowls. Free Shoes U fired BB. Went on to recruit better and win a NC. Last point is all great players have something exceptional about them and for all great OL it's certainly not a common trait of lifting 700 lbs. It's always one or a combination or a combination of three things- Strength (physicality), footwork or technique. Lifting massive amounts of weights is no guarantee of success.

I don't know if Swassey was good or bad at being a S/C coach.
I don't think it's normal that he couldn't be in the same room when the players were lifting.
I also think if you are good at that job big schools come and offer big money. We had a good one in Moffitt and LSU came and got him. Never heard anything about other schools trying to poach Swassey. Maybe it happened and it didn't come out.....but he's available now so we will see what the demand for is him.

Never seen many lineman work with Swasey.

I think Swasey's background is speed training which is why skill guys love him but that makes no sense. South Florida players typically bring speed to college with them. We've needed strength to push teams around since he took over.

I don't even think this is true...considering none of our players except Dorsett and Burns were considered having elite speed.
On the other hand, all of our players go to the combine and surprise people with their strength. Back to back years where we had a player lead their position in bench presses... but ofcourse, someone will find a way to twist this and give no credit to Swasey for it

Speed has nothing to do with swaseys approach & as I've said all along anyone associated with the program is furious over him taking the bullet for foldens program. Just like with art & barrow & every other position coach you have no choice but to coach towards the techniques & systems the head coach puts in place (which is why basically everyone of the former coaches except no d was hired in basically the same roles at other universities )swasey was forced to train kids for nothing but bulk & supposedly stamina. Logic though is stamina & explosiveness go to **** when a kid is playing far beyond their weight. Swaseys system & what all of us love him for & made us what we were is all fast twitch. That has nothing to do with speed & everything to do with explosion
