Spicer is an improvement over Feagles

Feagles punts are elite when he doesn't shank them. Happens too frequently to trust him tho
This is true. But he always shanks them. There is no way people can say they would rather have a guy who has 5 punts that go 24 ,22 , 31, 32, 54 over a guy who goes 43,42,54,39 , 43 . Yes he has some hang time issues but those punt returns weren't on him . My point was while he aint great we have gotten improved punting as the stats show the last few games.

yeah, not disagreeing with you there

1st punt 49 yards. 20 yard return.
2nd punt 24 yards out of bounds. FSU starts on their 25.
3rd punt 53 yards. 23 yd return but got saved by a holding penalty.
4th punt 46 yards 44 yd return
5th punt about like 50 yards with a bounce. 74 yard return touchdown.
6th punt 41 yds. 7yd return. Their returner fielded the punt inside their 5 otherwise the ball was going into the endzone for a touchback
7th punt 36 yards out of bounds FSU start on the 47.
8th punt 29 yards out of bounds. The only punt all game were FSU start below their 20. Edit: off of spicer's efforts*

Miami needs to recruit 4 specialists in this class. You need two punters(one preferably a grad transfer) and two kickers. I'd tell Feagles and Baxa that they should seek opportunities elsewhere THE DAY THE SEASON ENDS.

Hartley is an awful ST coach. FSU's punt returner wasn't calling for fair catches, he would merely stick his hand up(Which is legal, you just can't wave it side to side while holding it up). Miami players kept running past him, like he was calling a fair catch. That's a simple adjustment to make. Guys should have been running right through him, but they weren't. A competent ST could would have picked up on that.

A competent ST could would have also picked up on the fact that Miami had a kickoff from the 50 yard line. What you do in that situation is instruct your kicker to kick it high, but keep it somewhere between the 5-10 yard line. Force the returner to make a decision.

The big problem is his lack of hang time. The reason why FSU's returner had so much room was that Spicer's kicks are mostly line drive types. It seemed as if Matthews had 10-12 yards to work with before he came across a defender.

I don't think there is a team in the country with 4 scholarship punters/kickers.

We just need one punter who can do the job and a new special teams coach. The whole unit is horrible beyond just the actual punters/kickers. I think Bubba will be fine.

I don't understand why we are running by the returner to begin with. We aren't even in position just in case he muffs it. On the one where he caught it at the 5 we had a guy running past in in the end zone. Wtf was he doing?

I don’t think you guys grasp how important hang time is .. that’s why our coverage looked like dog **** most the time

Miami's special teams are so incredibly bad, you need to double down. 4 specialists is 4.7% of your scholarship allotment. That's pathetically small knowing that special teams is an undervalued asset, a part of the game that can really ***** you royally.

In a perfect world, Miami could take a punter and kicker this year, and hope for a miracle. That said, when you have arguably the worst special teams in Power 5, you need to hedge your bets. Like I said, I'd ditch Baxa and Feagles, and go for a grad transfer PLUS a freshman punter. You'd then have a one year rental, while you evaluated the youngster. If he isn't going to cut it, you can then bring in someone else to fill that spot. At kicker, you bring in two, and let them compete.

Hartley has got to go as ST coach. Things won't improve much until he does. Today's kick coverage breakdowns were just the latest zit to show up on gameday. Not blaming him exclusively for missed FG's either.

I’m not down on Bubba yet. This was his sixth game.

Missing a 28-yarder, in a key situation, was no bueno. He’s done a solid job otherwise. His PAT miss last week was partially blocked. Bubba’s kickoffs have really good.

and it makes a difference. Now punt return coverage was garbage but at least we have punted well the last 2 games since switching to Spicer . He averaged 41 yards tonight and had a long a 53 . Good news going forward . Now if we can work the yips out of Baxa who is insanely talented .
I’m not sure out kicking your coverage makes it better. These punters need to actually learn how to punt.
