A surprise came on the first day of last year's Early Signing Period when we learned about the signing of Aussie punter Dylan Joyce, whose name no one on this board had heard until then.

Here, I'll lay out how I see specialist recruiting this year.

KICKER

Abram Murray has been committed for some time. This is Andres Borregales' heir apparent. Murray is the #4 kicker in country according to 247sports.

PUNTER
I noticed that both Will Hutchinson and Fred Potter walked on Senior Day. Without them, Joyce is the only punter on the roster.
ITU lists no punters as UM targets. Two high school punters nearby who could play D1 ball are:
Jackson Kauppi, Jupiter H.S. - The #82 punter (4.5 stars) in the country per Kohl's. At 5'11, 160, he seems a little small.
Kristian Hobbs, Miami Central - Unranked by 247 or Kohl's, Hobbs is a 4 star on Kornblue Kicking. Listed at 6'0-6'1 and 200-220 by various sites.

LONG SNAPPER
Mason Napper filled Clay James' shoes so well that we barely noticed. With Michael Donovan and Justin Wood, there is some depth on the roster, as all 3 have remaining eligibility.

Jonathan Zarut from Columbus seems to be the top target. Kohl's has him as a 5 star and the #9 long snapper in the country. Memphis and FSU also have interest.
John Connelly (Huntsville, AL) posted a UM offer. Looks like a big kid at 6'3, 220. Rubio Long Snapping rates him as a 4.5 star.
David McDermott from Stuart is another kid I just found. Kornblue Kicking lists him as 6'1, 190, and rates him a 4.5 star.

Have you seen Murray's stats? I searched for them for like an hour last month. What I was actually able to find gave me Baxa vibes. Strong leg with holy **** bad accuracy. They must believe his issues are fixable. So there's hope.

I have not seen them, but given what you posted, I'm not going to look. Lol.
I hope he's not destined to come here and date a girl who gets filmed banging the QB and then falling all the way apart as a player.
I'm hoping for a better story for Abram.

Field position is critical in our in our offense. Chess not checkers.

I'm honestly still a little concerned about having only one punter on the roster, but Mario and Maloof will figure it out.

Punting is for pussies. Like taking a knee.
There was some high school guy in Texas who literally never punted. At that level, where don't have much time with the kids he said the chances of a bad snap, a drop by the punter, a crappy 15 year punt, etc was so high he just decided to use all 4 downs always. Kind of extreme I think but maybe not insane in HS.
