Can we stop messing around and hire an actual special teams coach?

Whatever we're doing isn't working. We're taking other schools scraps from the portal and we look so disorganized. Toney had no business fair-catching within 15 yards of our end zone. Thats something thats should of been taught months ago.

I am absolutely gobsmacked that a Division I school like the University Of Miami has to have a kicker competition, the winner having a lifetime 50% kick rate.

Like literally, great school, massive exposure, good weather. Why is it hard to recruit a kicker?

He did fine, and came up big when it counted. But ffs...

Minus the botched snap/hold on the 1st FG attempt, I thought our special teams looked good. Toney looks like a natural back there returning punts. I was pleased with special teams. Still not where we need to be, but looked improved from last year in some areas.

Nah.. at least this wasn't the Patke special teams unit in 2019 - that was really yikes.

Aside from the bad snap, our special teams was pretty solid. Decent returns from Marion and Toney. Kickoffs out of the end zone. Good coverage. Game winning field goal.

Not sure what the complaining is about.
We caught a punt inside 5. Pretty sure that’s a thing.

What are we doing here?

Coverage on KO (even though booted out of end zone) and punt were want you look for - lane integrity, speed, and pursuit.

We had a good kick return getting the ball out to the 30.

Punt protection was solid even when ND came with pressure.

We secured each punt on return. One critique would be Toney fair catch at the 5 - his guys came up and you can see the guys on the unit told him let it go. That's a frosh making a frosh mistake.

We made our kicks but had a bad snap - by the way it was raining and the ball was slick.

What are we complaining about?

Special teams have been a work in progress for years. They are not elite as in days of old.

I don't have a problem with a fair catch at the 15. If standing at the 10 and you have to step back to catch the ball, just let it go.

ST's were good tonight. One bad snap but great KO and punt coverage. Marion had a nice return when they finally kicked to him. Punting was also good.

There was a ND defender right behind him when he caught it though. You want the ball at the 5 or the 1?
You assume the play would have been made. That’s the whole reason behind the rule. Take that chance.

This is why people need to watch more than just Miami games. Literally every team in the country will have a kid do something that appears to be a dumb play.

It looked like ND was awfully close to Toney when he was catching punts. You are supposed to give a 2 yard halo. I wanted to go back and watch 1 that really looked close but forgot too.

Toney still looked calm and focused when fielding them.

When are people going to realize that we literally have a Special Teams coach on staff already
