Special Teams

The Kicking game is 100% better this year , but on special teams coaching just how do you leave the whole middle of the field open for a on-side kick, i could see that coming just watching on tv. Also punt returns need to be much better.

Until a few years ago, I never fully appreciated how hard it is to win games when you don't have at least serviceable kicking and punting.

Hedley continues to astound me with booming punts that are not returnable. The guy flips field position every time. It’s one thing to out kick your coverage and line drive a 50 yarder that gets returned 20 yards but Hedley gets so much air under his kicks that the opponent had no choice but to fair catch.

Hedley is 4th in the country behind WKU, Syracuse, and UTSA.

The great thing is we know the Special teams can play better. Once our returners get going we are going to be pretty much dominant.

It's a combination of both the height, and the extra second or two that he buys the punt coverage team to get down field when he runs to the side before kicking.

After that **** we went through before we got him, Hedley was the best part of last year other than getting ole Willie T fired.
