Special Teams - Punting

Haven't seen any thread talking about this.

At least Hedley punts halfway decently. A lot better than some negative 7 yard punts that we were used to last season.
Averaged 42.5 I believe which is better than what he was doing at Juco. Pinned in the endzone for one and had to get his first career punt here off quick. The third one took a bad bounce and the last one was his best I believe.

Nothing extra special, but consistent....hopefully he can run when needed

At this point, I will take consistency over extra yardage...

.. at least i don't feel that i have to hold my breath every time the punt team comes on.

Had one punt go less than 40 yards. His long of the day was 49. Couldn't really tell given that every single punt was under the shadow of the crossbar and UF would receive the ball at their 40 yard line. Had we had Feagles this would've been a disaster.

Strong debut. He'll only get better.

It wasn't spectacular, but it was good, and that's all we asked for last season. Just be good. You don't have to be Justin Vogel. Just don't be Zach Feagles.

Hedley averaged 42.5 a punt, and UF returned 3 of the 4 punts for a total of 19 yards (6.33 per return). Not great, not abysmal.

In 2018, we finished 117th in the country in net punting, with a 34.48 yard average. It was 37.75 on Saturday. Believe it or not, those 3 yards are worth about 70 spots in the rankings.

I think he did fine given his circumstances. His quick release got him away from a close call on a block at ome point, if I'm not mistaken?

dude was used to playing in front of 75 people, so im sure he'll get more comfortable and be consistent. no worries on the punting mate

I'm happy to see that the blocking for the punt was cleaned up.
Would like to see the coverage better.

The real stat for Punting is the net yards, not gross.

Was just about to point that out. Good work, just gotta clean up coverage lanes and tackling on them and we'll be even better.

I have never seen a quicker release than on his first punt. All the negative momentum in the world was going against us, things were looking scary... Hedley just wanted to get that ball TF out of there and not add any more misery. Crazy to see.

He was solid, I don't understand why we didn't let him punt rugby style, as is his preference. I think there would have been better distance had he been kicking the way he felt most comfortable. I will say this, it's nice to have a guy that can at least get the ball out without crapping himself. No shanks, decent hang time.

For real. I’m sure he took even one full step before getting that one off.

He did great, especially considering he was punting in shadow of goalline early in game. I think his best punt was when he went to the rugby punt that he is accustomed to.. Was that his long punt? I wouldnt be surprised.

We should allow him to rugby punt more often.

I thought it was interesting that he rolled to his right on the last kick more like what I'm accustomed to seeing with Aussie kickers. I'll be interested to see if that's more the norm when he's not pinned deep.

He averaged 42.5 not 37.75
