This special teams unit has a chance to be very good to great depending on how the returner position pans out. This is the first time in a very long time that this team has multiple fast and explosive returner options who can take it to the house given the opportunity.

With better athletes on the roster we did see an improvement in the coverage teams last season and I expect to see more improvement this season.

Miami also returns one of, if not the best, kicker and punter duos in college football.

If Special Teams can take a step forward this season it will be massive for this team and could be the difference on the road against UF and others.

We'll produce on our side.
On the defensive side, we were ranked 82nd in giving up punt return yardage and 92nd in KO return yardage per game.
This is where having more talent across the board should help. Special teams dominance isn't just scoring TDs. It's about having dudes that can get down to the other end fast and making stops. That is one of the biggest indicators, to me, that a team is a contender. When you have elite talent playing on special teams, because there is no room in the 2 deep for you, yet, is when you are going to be competing for championships.

Too bad we don’t have a real special teams coach. We have a recruiting guy running the show for one of the most important parts of a game.

This made me think about the consecutive run we had of punt returners in the late 90’s and early 00”s.

Santana Moss to
Daryl Jones to
Philip Buchanan to
Roscoe Parish to
Devin Hester

That was a lot of points and game changing plays from special teams. I would argue this is unparalleled in the history of college football.
