By the numbers

UM ranked 43rd in opponent punt returns and a dismal 117th in opponent kick returns. The Canes were 87th in punt return average and 81st in kick returns, with Coley (7.0 yards per punt return, 49th nationally; 22.54 per kick return, 65th) getting most of the work. Vogel was one of the nation’s better punters, averaging 42.8 yards per punt with a long of 65. Badgley, starting as a true freshman after incumbent kicker Matt Goudis retired because of a back injury, went 14-for-18 with a long of 48 yards. While not solely a special teams issue, Miami was also 108th in penalties (63.6 yards per game). A healthy chunk of those yards came on special teams.

When Micheal Barrow, the numbers never look like this. Then he was fired to stay with the LBs...then he went to the League.

Who is the Specials Team Coach again?

i find it curious that we do not have a ST coach. why? is it that the AD allocates x dollars for assistant coaches and they want to use the money that would be allocated to a ST coach for other coaches? only reason I can think of because we have been mediocre at ST.

You remember when we would just kill kick returners every time, I miss those days. There is nothing about this team that resembles the great Cane teams of old.

Maybe explains why he can't fire any of his coaches. Based on those numbers, he would have to fire his own sorry self...

The departed LB coach was the ST coach. They housed quiet a few returns with Travis Benjamin, Duke Johnson, and UM recently used Stacey Coley, and Dorsett. The HDIC took over from the LB coach figuring he would hoard the easy glory in a unit that had been performing well. I have never seen Golden with ST coaching in his resume, yet he assumed it, And that unit has suck big times ever since even with speedsters as Phil Dorsett, Burns, Coley...the lines and wedges were just not being created and quite frankly one could just see that the return teams had no real identity for the first time ever in UM history.

Not sure if any UM ever had so many bonafide speedsters with such worser return yards in the entirety of college Football...but this HC/ST coach earned it.

+1 for legit use of "worser".
