Dont know if we've truly discussed this but the level of play of S.FLA qbs in College has really been ratcheted up.

Our local guys are performing on a high level when they step up to div 1 its actually kind of intriguing.Alot of us saw this coming (i did) but whats the cause of the better qb play, and development for guys down here?

D$ been preaching this for awhile...

The reason, I'm not sure but I would say the spread offense has something to do with it. Look at northwestern, they ran some run based offense for years then switched to spread and the offense became explosive and produced 2 bcs qbs.. They were one of the first more and more it has spread around.

7 on7 tournaments has forced kids to learn route recognition rather than just out athlete defenses with better offensive personal. Then add in the ability to play year round and kids are excelling at QB when they get to college and I agree playing in the spread offenses in college helps. But the pro style balanced offense is still what wins championships!

I'd say it all depends on the system these kids are put in once they get to college.

That was my theory about Jacory. I thought he looked good when he was in the spread/gun. Soon as you put him under center and forced him to drop back and make reads he was done.

Maybe my memory is fuzzy, but it seemed like every time we were down a couple scores and we needed to line-up in spread and throw the ball, Jacory marched us right down the field. Our offense was unstoppable.

Improved passing games at the lil league level and 7 on 7 is your answer.

Spread offense has been around at HS for a minute it's what coaches used back in the day to empty out the box and "spread" out the defense to allow there beast RB more lanes to work with. Guys like Markeith Cooper and even Frank Gore excelled in the spread offenses back in the day.

Most of the guys we are talking about now were slinging the ball around since lil league. Times have changed and for teams to excel at that level now you have to be able to pass the ball. So kids get to HS more prepared to be qb at a younger age. Just looking at some of the kids in HS now like Sean White when he was at PPO, Treon @ Overtown, Winky Flowers @ Liberty City, Maurice ALexander at Florida City, Kato Nelson @ Miami Gardens/PPO and youngins that will probably be future stars we'll be talking about like Stanford Samuels III whose a backup at Flanagan but was a beast at PPO/Pasadena, TuTu Atwell Jr who plays for LBC, Lorenzo Floyd who plays for Pasadena, Doc Richardson who plays for PPO. Now HS coaches can take that incoming FR QB whose been throwing the ball around since lil league and before he even starts fall practice you get to take him all over the place to play in 7 on 7 tournaments with you and you have kids more prepared to play QB at early ages now then it ever was a decade ago.

I said this before just like we are seeing an improvement in QB play in HS down here over the last 10 years(and I think it's only going to get better because we're still in the early stages), I expect the OL/DL play to take a jump in the next decade and get us on closer footing with the Georgia's/Carolina's/Texas/MidWest for trench players with more and more optimist leagues moving away from the weight restrictions for middle school aged kids. You'll no longer have eighth graders sweating to weight 135lbs just to play football.

So you saying we should run spread ?

I also wondered why we never utilize south florida's speed and also their dual threat qb's with an offense that fits their personnel

Rakeem Cato why did he end up Marshall? only school to offer as QB or bad grades?

Rakeem is like 5'10 and early on committted to fiu...also he was a kid that played at Miami Springs....a place where kids go to die...and played at central just one year....

Cato's a kid that would of killed the camp circuit had he started off earlier and would of ended up at a bigger school but marshall seemed to be a good fit.

Someone mentioned it i think am...but guys like Teddy B, Treon were slinging it around at the optomist level. Sean White same thing....

Go catch som optomist game with the unlimited age groups..which are middle school to 9th grae age kids and some teams are legit running spread concepts and slinging it around..(the good coached teams) liked to get the discussion going about it.

I always liked Teddy... I remember when he started at qb his 10th grade year... It either boot leg or rollouts... That kid evolved into the player he is now... I really want to see him in the NFL with some fast game changing receivers... Another kid I like is Treon... I thought he was an athlete playing qb before the season started after watching him this year the dude can pass... The only qb I seen developed and progressed like that throughout high school was Teddy... The kid is a stud...
