South Florida draft

You can call it what you want, but its officially the I-4 corridor / central Florida region. Florida is divided into thirds ( north, central, and south Florida) now within those primary geographic regions are sub sectors ie west Florida, the panhandle, sw Florida etc.

Go Canes

Im from orlando tampa is considered central florida.

I don't know the official rule...but I always thought Tampa was part of the "Bay Area" that included Bradenton/St.Pete/Clearwater/Tampa.

I never knew Tampa people to identify as Central Floridians.
It's definitely on the Southwest coast of Florida, hence the reason I-75 (Florida's main way of travel on the West coast) is the only way to get there.

Nobody says "I'm from Central Flawda!"
"Oh what part?"
"Tampa!"

Tampa is central Florida even though we just refer to it as TB area. West Florida is the panhandle like Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach, and Panama.

When I tell someone I'm from Plant City which is Hillsborough county, and they ask where is that, I say it's in central Florida.

We consider SW Florida as somewhere around Bradenton or Punta Gorda on down.

it is not. You can like every Pranos post on the subject.

Tampa has never ever been considered central florida.

What a weird back and forth. Paranos, I also lived in Tampa before: Tampa is on the west coast of Florida. It is not in the center of the state. Plus as Tee said, specifically referencing inhabitants that live there it is perceived as West Florida (which also makes more sense culturally).

Maybe you guys have conflicting definitions of longitude and latitude?

Thank you.

USF started in 1956, UCF in the 60’s.

if Tampa was considered central then they would’ve called it UCF.
