Sources: Rumph not expected to be retained on staff

I wanted Rumph gone, but afraid he will be the only one to go from the defensive side which would be a colossal mistake. I would be ok with all of them staying, but as analysts and Manny bring in better recruiters and more experienced coaches

Rumph is by far the most worthless coach on the entire Defense. Banda & Baker both help with game planning in addition to coaching their position groups. Patke also coaches ST. So just from a value stand pt theres no comparison between the coaches you named and Rumph. Then you take into account recruiting, and it's really not that difficult to understand why this decision was made.

NONE of these coaches can recruit. CB play has been better and more consistent than Safety/LB play. Special Teams sucks has been average. From a game planning stand point, yes, the Manny's gang that he all knew prior to Miami help more with actually crafting and creating a game plan, but its not because of the lack of Rumph's knowledge. I'm willing to bet its because of what Diaz wants to happen as opposed to actually listening to the guys on his staff with experience, or HIRING someone with more experience than him to argue with instead of over rule consistently.

Who are realistic options? Did Manny work with any good CB coaches in his past jobs? That’s probably where this is headed and i have a feeling we won’t be too thrilled about the decision

Rumph's recruiting got him a fired ***.. Half of his job he was deficient at. I feel like he was a great technique coach and developed talent, but recruiting is the lifeblood of a team. But I don't see how you can get rid of Rumph and keep Banda? Banda may recruit but I feel like a lot of the blown coverages we saw were safeties out of position.

Feel free to correct me if what I saw was wrong.

Also: Does anybody see any advantage is hiring a DBs coach instead of splitting them up? Have Patke coach striker and ST, Stroud DL, someone coach DBs, and if he keeps Baker the DC. Then on offense you could have an extra coach and it appears like they need it. If Manny is a defensive guy he can use his knowledge to help that out like Saban does the DBs at Bama.

There are some guys on this staff that I actually think are good coaches, but they all should go. That’s the only way Diaz will have a shot. Just firing Rumph will be a BAD look in SF, right or wrong, it won’t go over well in the SF community.
Considering CB recruits and some HS coaches around here laugh at his attempt to recruit these kids I think we will be fine. Sure he can be respected as a person but when it comes to actually coaching and recruiting these kids for their future then nah. He couldn’t even land any CB’s he coached at AH!!!. That’s all you need to know about what kids think of him these days.

If Rumph gets canned and none of the other defensive assistants, will tell us all we need to know about Manny.

I think we already know all we need to about Manny and his firing one or all of his coaches isn’t gonna change the fact he’s in waaaaaaay over his head and unless he will be hiring top notch coordinators to come in and run this teAm( which no mid level coordinator in his right mind would do non the less top notch guys) nothing is going to change.

We have the equivalent of a 10 year old trying to run a Fortune 500 company so no hiring or firing of peripheral personnel is going to change the fact that the guy in charge doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Not surprised, Manny barely hired him. Remember that he was the last guy to be retained. He was also the only defensive coach to not get a ridiculous promotion from Richt.

I still think they should fire Banda too, get one badass db coach who can actually recruit. Then fire Patke, get a real ST coach, and also get a legit linebacker coach who can recruit. It's really that simple.

i know this is the not the thread for it.. but on kickoff returns, punt returns and interception returns... our guys never know who to block and are always stopping after they hit a guy on the shoulder... and they never make two blocks... holy **** i cant believe how poor our special teams are from what we once were.. patke to me has no ability to coach at this level and i wish he was also getting removed

I refuse to say anything bad about the man, he's a Cane through and through. In terms of his job, the deficiencies are well known, it is negligent to be in our situation at CB recruiting every year. That said, I will view his ****canning differently depending on who else goes with him.
