Sounds like we are getting an experienced DC

I was thinking the same thing, i haven’t done much research as to who’s available and runs a similar 4-3 attacking system though? Anyone have any info on that?

Im convinced Richt had his mind made up he was retiring when Manny left and he promoted those two. It really didn't make a whole lot of sense and in hindsight was a pretty high character thing of him to do. Think about it. If he made his mind up then he was retiring why would he hire a new DC knowing he would be leaving and know that guy would then probably not even be around when a new coach is hired?

Another indictment on Richt. He's basically saying they were not qualified. He just hedged on it when asked directly about co-coordinator. He could have easily said yes we are keeping it co-coordinator. To me, it means that he is looking to make an outside hire but if that falls through then he can go back to someone from the staff.
 
Fran Brown from Temple would be an excellent hire.

It’s important to remember Manny isn’t going to get every one of the rumored people out there, but the list he’s putting together is what is so encouraging to me.


The quality of staff he builds will be essential to his success. Most of the previous Miami staffs have been a list of Facebook friends for the HC. I want a team of individuals with strengths where one is weak and with the courage to challenge every idea before it becomes a decision.

Richt had a happy first week on the job as well, but thus far I’ve been impressed with the process Manny is employing.

He should hire someone better than himself...not less experienced.

"The quality of staff he builds will be essential to his success." True for most coaches but even more so for Manny.. If we are completely honest no other P5 program of Miami status is hiring Manny Diaz as head coach. He was a struggling defensive coordinator at La Tech 3 years ago and now HC at Miami. He has to get it right on staff cause if he doesn't this might be his only shot as a HC.
 
He would get someone that ran HIS scheme. so you can rule out the big names

manny knows his defense is the best in the nation or top 3. he wouldn't take a risk of getting someone who is worse or would put that side of the ball at risk like schiano

that's not true. he was in LA tech 5 years ago and he wasn't struggling in the slightest not sure you know what you're talking about
