Sorta OT: "89 Blocks" on Fox Sports...

I thought it was really well done. I have a whole new perspective on JT4 - did not know that he had a young daughter. I knew he was a quiet kid, but he appears to be a serious introvert.

Loved the ending where they showed his signing day moment with Miami + a highlight from his first TD against UNC.

Spoilers

Jeff was tripping in highschool lol.
Some of this stuff is scripted though

Great doc. Almost like a Hollywood movie. Insane how they picked the team with the perfect cast of characters for each stereo type.

I can’t imagine a fraction of the things Jeff Thomas has gone through and the things he’s seen.

God bless him and his journey to greater things in life.

Yea those kids from that area are truly blessed to make it out.... nobody knows what Jeff went through during those times....at the end of the day....we do know he got it together!

His quote at the end of the show says it all....

"I want to see how the world is out there before I die"

Just the fact he's talking about his death at 18 years old tells you everything he's been through and his perspective.

6 x 6 = 12?

And how dafuq are you flunking African American History if you're...African American?[/QUOTE]

Same way white Americans fail European American history.

i'm sorry, but WTF is "european american history????" .... i can't imagine the intellectual swill within the identity police that conjured that one.

Don't ruin the thread.

IDK about that...this doc raises more questions than answers.

For example, how does a kid miss that much school, and remain eligible?

HC soft, I would've kicked His *** off the team, fuq a vote.

And spare me the boo hoo, dewy eyed, "what Jeff went through", bullllllsh!t...I'm sure there are others that have had it tougher.

I hope the NCAA doesn't come snoopin' around on account of this doc!

East St. Louis is about as tough as it gets. There's a reason you can get a house there for about $20k.

I grew up in Naranja and Homstead most of my life. In no way did I have it THAT bad as JT.

“You put a textbook in front of these kids, put a problem on the blackboard, teach them every problem in some statewide test, it won't matter. None of it. 'Cause they're not learning for our world; they're learning for theirs. They know exactly what it is they're training for and what it is everyone expects them to be. It's not about you or us or the test or the system. It's what they expect of themselves. Every single one of them know they're headed back to the corners. Their brothers and sisters, ****, their parents. They came through these same classrooms. We pretended to teach them, they pretended to learn and where'd they end up? Same **** corners. They're not fools, these kids. They don't know our world but they know their own. They see right through us.” - Bunny Colvin (The Wire)

Finally got around to watching and I wish Jeff more than the best, I wish he finds someone to help him break the cycle. He’s taken the first steps.
