St. Louis & Donaldson out of position.

Jones & Mahoney our starting guards.(edit)

Hoping two Frosh & a grad transfer can contribute in Scaife & Campbell & Boulware.

No bueno. Gots me major worried.

This team has great pieces everywhere but OL.....Yikes.

Donaldson and St. Louis are tackles and have high upside at the spot

Gaulthier is a solid center

Guard play remains to be seen but venzel boulware started at Tennessee(looked good vs bama when he played them one year) before his leave of absence.

Jahair Jones may have turned the corner at left guard, was solid in the spring.

Most talented group of backup lineman we have had in a long time.

Tackle
Hillery
Campbell
Herbert

Guards
Scaife
Reed
Gaynor
All are talented guys they just need to be developed

We should be a solid unit this year, they have improved each of the last 2 years. Oline is different than most units it takes time to gel and with a another year of experience under their belt they should improve.

Despite the common misconception they were more than solid for much of the season outside a handful of games. They did show up in some of our biggest games like fsu, Notre Dame, va tech, wisconsin(played well enough to win imo). This is against 3 top 20 defenses in the country

Did you come to this conclusion on your own? If so, I applaud you sir. It takes a lot to miss the countless threads, blogs, articles, radio interviews, videos and tweets that have all covered this topic.

Searles needs to get his house in order, really unacceptable how his unit has performed. Ok at recruiting though.

And what exactly is it that you want us to do about it?

The line is set up to maul on the right side and I expect to be further along at run-blocking than pass blocking early on, but better overall compared to last season. The offense should look a lot like it did last season with better talent and hopefully better execution as well.

That said, each QB has their strengths and I'd expect some tweaking to maximize those strengths for whomever is under center.

29% 3rd down conversation for 2017.
Improve the above, we improve our record..

part of that number is because we couldn't simply line up and run the ball on 3rd and short. Richt tried everything to.

Heavy package? Whipped.
OL at FB? Whipped.
Walk on at FB? Whipped.
Delay handoff? Whipped.
Read Option? Whipped.
FB handoff? Whipped.
Under center handoff? Whipped.
QB Sneak? Whipped.(from time to time)
Wildcat? Whipped.
Toss/Play going to the outside? Whipped.

Richt had to run trick plays just to convert 3rd downs.

we were far worse off last season

We essentially move around 4 starters assuming Boulware starts at a guard spot.

I don’t like moving ND.

But look at our 2016 OL

We should be better

Not worried about Depth, but am concerned if Jahair Jones ends up starting.

I been saying since February that St. Louis would be the LT & would be an upgrade at that spot considering he's been the best OL on the team 2 years in a row. McDermott was horrible in 2016 & serviceable in 17, but not great enough for the kind of LT we need.

I was surprised Donaldson was moved to RT because he played well at RG, but I'm happy he's transitioning to his natural position at Tackle. He should flourish there, just needs to keep working on his footwork.

Gauthier got that Center spot locked, him & Gaynor are good there, no issues with those 2.

At Guard we have a ton of depth, Boulware, Scaife, Reed, Gaynor (who can also play C/G) & Mahoney as a backup if need be. I'm not sold on Jones yet, he has a lot to prove & honestly I don't expect him to be a starter all season.

The part that I am paying close attention to is how long it will take Searels to get the right lineup together. It took him half the **** season in 2016 to realize Linder was a massive liability & bench him for Gauthier. Also had to shuffle McDermott from the interior to Tackle after getting embarrassed vs Va Tech.

I wanna see something from Hillery & Herbert this year, Z Hill I hope plays up to his potential & finds his way into the lineup if needed. In Spring he was playing some at Guard, but I think his ultimate future is at RT. What I hope the most is that if either of them are called on due to injury that they can step up & ball.

Cant count of Freshman.

Anyone heard any news about Hillary or Herbert stepping up?

Gaynor is overrated here. He is limited.

Offensive line. A good QB can make a defense react slower with more quick releases and ability to adjust protection. Ju

Seen enough of boulware film when he started at Tennessee vs bama, he was more than holding his own

Worst unit on the team and I don’t think it will be a drastic improvement over last year. A lot of optimism in this thread but I just don’t see the talent. It’s concering the guys Richt/Searels have recruited haven’t stepped up yet.

Honest question. The Oline was beyond awful in the spring and is adding only Boulware so where are we supposed to get so much better?

Our biggest issue is no real LT and all the problems stem from there including depth. St Louis is a solid RT but not a good LT as of now. Donaldson has the tools to be a elite Guard, but just an okay RT. Don't see the upside at the moment at Tackle that you do. Gauthier is solid at center. I won't be sold on Boulware til he makes some noise but expecting him to start at this is expected. Then the other guard position is scary. I will give you that they did show up in pass protection against FSU, that is encouraging.
