Why does the kick returner change numbers when that person is going to handle the ball? Why dont they put the #47 jersey on the blocker who has the same number?

I was asked this morning why Ray Ray Joseph never sees the field and I had to spell this out.

Meaningless but I felt like asking. lol

Im guessing because the blocker is already playing defense and the pr is coming off sideline as an offensive player.. easier logistics..

They need to just put them boys in #1 jersey and it looks that much better, you look good, you feel good, you play good..

Because the play before (third down) there was likely a player already on the field wearing that jersey number.

So it is easier to put the jersey on a player who is already on the sidelines waiting to run on to receive the punt, as opposed to making a defensive player run over, put on the jersey, and then run back onto the field.

That whole process is ridiculous. Just keep the freaking jersey you have and return That football. Ridiculous rule
