Assuming Patke and Banda stay co-defensive coordinators, Manny will be making a tantamount mistake if we don’t make a change there if we start sucking on that side of the ball.

We’ve seen the “I don’t want to fire my friends” story too often in the past 20 years. I’m not saying they will fail, but if they do, Diaz cannot tie himself down to them.

Good point. I agree, all great coaches fire people. Anyone can do the easy parts of coaching, only the good ones do the hard things well like firing staff. I hope he does not fall into that loyalty bullcrap hole. It is many a coaches downfall.

Manny needs to recognize as our new HC that we just saved a ****load of money by Richt walking away for free and him probably being paid less than Richt was by a healthy amount.

He needs to know that he can do better than Patke and Banda as our DCs RIGHT NOW. They were your underlings Manny, nothing more nothing less. Don't give them a seat at the big boy table where actual decisions are made and games are won or lost by. They in no way deserve that opportunity at this stage of their careers.

Whether it's offense defense, S&C or the waterboy, I completely agree. We need Manny to be the type of HC that holds his staff completely accountable.

It is his defense those guys know. He isn't going to bring in a guy to then teach him his D.

No way he gets rid of them! They are apart of his system. He’s not gonna go out there a hire a dc that runs a different system than his own! So we’re stuck with the same ol ****!

The same ol **** that led us to a #4 finish in Defensive Efficiency, right there with Alabama, Clemson, Michigan State, and Georgia?

Stats 102: His defense couldn’t stop anybody with a decent offense!

Can you imagine what a Oklahoma, Bama, Clemson offense would do to this team? Yeah double what Wisconsin did to them by halftime

Yep, when Manny excepted the HC job he excepted the responsibility to make sure EVERYONE is doing the JOB they are hired to do and make changes as needed or except the fate of a fired ball coach

Why is this board even worried about our D ??????---- we will be fine on that side - zero worries

Zero concerns unless we play the Wisconsins of the college football world. Not talking Clemson or Bama... talking about 7-5 teams with competent OCs.

The only thing Manny absolutely cannot do is:

Lose

... or listen to clowns on message boards who are knee-jerk and over-emotional, simply because they're sick of Miami sucking for 15 years.

This guy has followed this program religiously for over three decades. He's a big of a FAN of Miami as anyone else out there—and dedicated his career to create this moment where he'd someday take over "The U".

This ****y fan base needs to STFU and let the man do his job. Stop will all this idiotic "what if" crap and calling this hire a Shannon 2.0 type move.

Diaz has been working his whole life to get to this moment—right down to leaving three weeks ago to go to Temple, instead of playing coach-in-waiting. He had the balls to leave, knowing it was his best path to getting the Miami job someday—which happened a lot sooner than expected because of Richt's retirement.

Dumb as it may seem, that $4M buyout and simple exercise of him leaving for Temple helps prove he's the right guy—instead of getting the job by default after Richt retired; promoted from within. It was a short-lived three weeks—but an important three weeks.

That's the difference between Saban and alot of coaches.

Same for every defense in the country. No defense was shutting those offenses. Clemson struggles a bit under Lawrence but once he settled in they rolled.
