Something I noticed about kick-offs

Which brings me to the next question, couldn't we have fielded the onside kick prior to it going 10yds on the one they recovered, It was always mu understanding that only the kicking team couldn't make contact until after ten.
Yes. Harley and the hands team were unprepared for the 10 yard dribble strategy. It was good coaching.

Yes, the receiving team does not have to wait 10 yards. As I was watching it live I was like WTF. It was slow bouncing and should have been easy to field. It let the kicking team get on him just as he made contact. Bad awareness, bad coaching.

The epitome of "situational awareness".

I think y’all need to rewatch it. It wasn’t a slow moving ball just rolling on the ground. It took a short hop at about 7 yrds then bounced back right to Jordan.

Speaking of kickoffs, I swore I saw Pope fair catch a return at our own 3 yard line in the first half. But after commercial break we lined up as if it was a touchback. Anybody else see that?
Why are people liking this? Hasn't it been like 3 years now that you can fair catch KOs inside the 10 and it's a touchback?

How have none of you noticed this since.. oh... 2018?

College rule change. A KO fair-catch inside the 25 is a touchback.

New NCAA rule turns any fair catch inside the 25-yard line on a kickoff into a touchback. Last month, the NCAA Football Rules Committee proposed a significant tweak to kickoffs, calling for any fair catch made between the goal line and the 25-yard line to be treated as a touchback.Apr 13, 2018

It seemed like there was a deliberate attempt to make L'ville return KO's in the second half. At one point he dropped a few in almost the exact same location, seemed intentional...man, I need a life...

Go back and watch some video from the 1980s. This USED TO BE something we were great at. I understand why most teams prefer to kick touchbacks, but Miami has always had fast freshmen/sophs on the KO team, not sure why we wouldn't want to kick it to the 1 yard line more often.

As has been pointed out, the opposing team could always call a fair catch. But most return guys are situationally stupid, they love that concept of trying to run it out from the 1.

We talking about the second one that was recovered by Louisville. It went right at Harley without any weird bounces. Here it is at the 25:27 mark. The replay that shows it in close up is at 25:37.
