I appreciate the optimism and it's certainly not unfounded but there is a long way to go. This season seems to be setting up nicely and our little 3 game preseason followed by a bye was a gift from the football gods. From here on out it gets real and I really like what this coaching staff has done thus far in terms of scheme fitting personnel, S&C, position coaching etc. This October stretch is where they will earn their paychecks. I feel that barring injuries we are more than capable of beating every team on the schedule. Do we have enough depth to survive the grind? That is my main concern going forward.
As far as games that have the potential to be a concern, look no further than GT. I love what Manny Diaz and our defense have shown this far but the youth at LB going against an option attack like GT runs could be an issue. I also look for GT to try and exploit our youth and aggressiveness the lots of misdirection. I think our d will hold up over course of the game but Kaaya and the offense will be key if they can score points and take GT out of their game plan.
FSU has major issues on defense but that is a rivalry game. UNC also has a sieve for a defense but they can score points. That will also be a tough one and a great test for our defense. VT on the road at night on a short week will be a challenge. Yes ND is reeling but anytime we play the Irish in South Bend it's huge and I certainly won't overlook them.
A couple of things are certain. The month of October will tell us everything we need to know about this team and we will be fun to watch! It's about to get real and I can't wait!
