Someone Please explain the Screen Pass Fumble Call

It was a fumble, we got lucky they didn't get a td out of it

true but there also should of been a penalty call for the 13 Louisville players on the field. i've thought for years that the ACC and Big East/AAC officiating was some of the worst i have ever seen.

personally i don't like any plays that go backwards in the endzone. more bad happens more often than good in that situation. how about trying a jump pass to one of our oversized tigntends.

QB recognized there was a mismatch on the outside. It wasn't a designed play, it was a play between kayaa and coley. Terrible throw....you never throw that pass laterally (except for a double pass). Terrible catch and effort by Coley.

Can we get some proof? I thought I saw two Louisville players jogging off late as well cause I was yelling for Kaaya to snap it quick and take a free shot.

Just a poorly executed play. An argument could be made that is was another one of the many terrible play calls, but if Kaaya hits Coley in the numbers... At this point it doesn't matter.

Was a designed run. Kaaya panicked and threw it behind the line of scrimmage and early to a surprised Stacy coley.

That ones on the QB.

So Coley couldn't catch the ball bc he was surprised the ball was thrown to him when he is uncovered?

that was one of the most idiotic play calls i have seen, only possibility of stuff going wrong on that play. we got lucky it wasn't a td. the playaction to clive works for a TD, and then we don't go to it 1 more time in the red zone. amazing. This team is in for at least 5 losses this year.

It was a great call, if the catch is made we walk in and go up by 10 and a very different game. The pass was just bad, you are taught to make that pass a forward pass

Sports buzz thread has a quote by Golden that says the play was a designed run, so i think Kaaya actually checked to that play. It was a good call to do so just poor execution.

Agreed it was a backwards pass, play should've been called dead for Louisville having 13 men on the field. We probably would've scored there.

Yea it was a fumble by rule...but Louisville also had like 24 men on the field. Which, most of the time, is a penalty.

At the start of the play, they had 1 guys on the field, just like us.
They actually had 12 guys, one was running off but I believe they changed that rule to where if they are near the sidelines then they are considered off the field of play. That was the reason this even happened, Kaaya said it himself in the press conference. They saw that they didnt have guys on the field and he rushed it. Still, the ball should have at least been caught but oh well.

Right, that was the whole reason of the rushing the play and bad pass that occurred from it was to try and to get the off sides or at least the too many men on the field penalty. In the opening game on Thursday night or Okla St/Fla St game I recall them stopping the play instead of allowing the rushed play to occur and allow the substitution.

If he completes that pass Coley walks in for a TD. Definitely not an idiotic play call...

A smarter veteran QB snaps the ball right there. Kaka waited until UL's players got off the field before snapping it. What can I say, he's a nice guy.

Doesn't seem like an idiotic play to me at all, whether called by Coley or on the fly by Kaaya. We had them in a bad spot, and the numbers were there. Easy throw and catch. Should have been a score a best and a short/no gainer at very worst.

To me, it's simply two players ******** up on the same play (the only two players that had anything to do on the play, besides the WR blocker). And not just ******** up, but ******** up ROYALLY, inside the opponent's 10-yard line, after a turnover, in a close game, and so forth. Kaaya makes a poor throw AND Coley can't grab a ball sitting in front of his face with nobody else around to stop him from grabbing it. As I mentioned, if either of those two things doesn't happen, we're at least still sitting pretty inside their 10 with three downs to go.

Instead, we give them the ball back right after taking it away.

It's this kind of crap that makes me wonder if someone is pulling a hidden-camera prank on me when I watch Miami games. I just don't understand the **** that happens sometimes. I mean, come the **** on maaaaan!

The ball won't be snapped for a couple of seconds.

In any case, the whistle can be clearly heard before Louisville picks up the ball. I don't know how you can recover a fumble after the whistle.

So we had Kehoe, Coley & D'ono up in the box and NOONE saw that they had 13 men on the field? :stupid:

THIS I as well was unaware of the rule an opposing player could be on the field (off sides no less?). As soon as I saw the LV guys running through the backfield I was jumping up and down yelling "run the play, free play". IMO it's a dumb a$$ rule, takes alertness and savvy out of the game.
