It’s still very early in spring, but I’m a big believer in first impressions. Here are some tidbits from spring:

- We are going to rush the passer. Marquise Lightfoot in particular looks like he could have a big season. He’s added about 10 pounds, but more importantly he’s sharpened his pass rush repetoire. His spin move is becoming a weapon. Justin Scott is another one who may be reaching a new level. They watched Bain and Mesidor’s journeys and want similar success for themselves.

- I am very encouraged by what I’m seeing out of Jackson Cantwell. He is not a finished product by any means, but he is further along at left tackle than I anticipated. When he gets his hands on someone, it’s over. Max Buchanan is also impressing at right guard. Fluid and physical.

- Josh Moore and Somourian Wingo are two of the most natural athletes on the team. Both have made spectacular contested catches in the early going.

- Somebody who would know told me that Gavin Mueller reminds him of a young Jeremy Shockey.

- Chase Smith is wearing #9 and he has a lot of people asking, “Who is that?” Health is always going to be the key variable, but we have a unique combination of size, age and underlying athleticism between Smith and Mo Toure.

- Omar Thornton is playing safety and throwing himself around like a missile. Nickel has been a wide-open competition with a lot of names involved. JJ Dunnigan is playing boundary safety for now, but some around the program feel he could play any position in the secondary including outside corner.

- One younger guy who has been tough to block: freshman DT Logan Nagle.

 

Its these two plays for me



Look at the strength he’s producing from his legsto power thru the double and hold, this is why he looks stronger than his weight. His lower body is strong asf



And this play might have to zoom in to see fully, he’s over the RG. Has a solid rush plan with a hesi then attacks the right shoulder puts the guard in recovery mode then swipes the right hand and bends to beat the recovery. His lower body strength and ankle flexibility allows him to get good leverage while being able to change directions in small angles

I’ll keep beating the drum that until a team makes him a liability setting the edge, he needs to be out there every play. Monster.

Kenny Holmes 1st rd darft pick 98 games, 2 int, 11ff, 9 fr, 38.5 sacks 2 tds 42 tfl

Right now this is this is the best de duo Miami has ever had when bain and mesidor get this kinda production they can have the title

Lang and Holmes were bad to the bone at miami also. College and pro this is miami's top group.

Hard to top Bain and Mesidor. If there’s an argument, it would be with Stubbs and Hawkins.

Not talking pro. Talking at UM. Stubbs had 39.5 sacks was an all-American, Hawkins was a consensus all-American and 1st Round pick. Saw both play and the 86-87 DEs were better. I was in school for Lang and Holmes.

College and pro is what matters. Anything else is trash. Its like you saying you'll take ken dorsey over jim kelly, vinny testeverde, bernie kosar, steve walsh or chad ward. You'd be a fool to do so.

Hawkins was a bust in the nfl. 42 games 8 starts 5 career sacks. Flat trash. Holmes and lang smoke this group. At one point holmes was second in career sacks at miami 2x all big east, should have been an AA and as mentioned ealrier a first rd pick. His pro career destroys hawkins. Lang was an AA at miami, 1st rd pick and his pro career was better than stubbs.

College and pro, the true measure of a great player is dominate by this pair.

Lightfoots OSU game gets overshadowed by the other dogs we had on the field that day, but he had as good of a game as anyone had in the entire playoffs.

Best play by a singular player was on that 3rd and 20. Lines up in press man over Jeremiah Smith, jams him so hard that Smith can't get off the LOS, disrupting the entire timing of the play, covers the checkdown and makes the TFL on the RB at the end. The entire play happened and worked in our favor because of him and he's an EDGE jamming and stonewalling one of the great WR prospects we'll ever see. Absurd.

I mean this is not even close. Edge is a HOFer and Morgan is the most decorated Miami LB outside of Ray Lewis at both levels.

Not relevant to the poont you were responding too, but Maybe if you said Edge and Vilma vs Portis and Morgan… the ‘edge’ in that still probably goes to the side with Morgan though…
