Alright, got a good nights sleep after a long day in Death Valley/Clemson and the drive back-and-forth to Atlanta. Despite the week long forecasts, there wasn't a drop of rain on game day out there. Miami came out on top of the Tigers, 41-13 in their storm troopers gear. Some thoughts on the game..

- I don't think I've ever looked forward to a bye week as now. Miami is the walking wounded. Once again key players (Lightfoot, McCoy, O'Conner) were nicked up. They need to re-set physically as they go into FSU week.

A lot of young players like Ryan Mack are getting key reps now. If this team can get healthy down the stretch they will have some real depth to it

- Miami started off fast and at 17-3 it looked like it would be an early blowout. The last half of the second quarter was frustrating, a lot of little things collectively were big. From not converting on 3 and 1, the procedure penalty that wiped out Malachi Toney's touchdown down the seam (his second career TD that has been taken off the board due to that kind of infraction) , to not getting off the field defensively on 3rd and 16 near halftime as Clemson was pinned deep on their side of the field.

They were up 17-6, but it felt like the game should've been 31-3 at the half.

- Dylan Joyce I think had one of his better games punting. He nailed a few that flipped the field.

- No more questions about Damon Wilson, every week he's getting better and more disruptive on every series. If Im not mistaken, there was a missed holding call on Clemson's opening drive on 3rd down.

- Omar Thorton is a hard hitter, but an unreliable tackler out in space. It may be time to just pare down what he does. He had two misses that led to about 60 yards for Clemson. Sometimes the difference between a good play on this side of the ball, and one that gives up 50 yards is one guy not making a routine play

- Tait Reynolds was pretty gutty. Maybe they had no choice, till the very end of the game, Clemson had less than 30 yards rushing. Reynolds threw for 295 but it took 44 attempts. There was a lot of quick, horizontal throws. I wonder if the Miami corners like OJ Fredrique and X-Lucas were available if Cory Hetherman would be more aggressive on the back end and have them press. '

His unit bent a bit, but given the circumstances they played well

- As for Clemson, I think it's fair to say that they may have the best pair of WR"s and corners that Miami will face in the ACC. They don't have nearly the overall talent they had but those two units have future NFL guys.

- Running game was strong at the end. At 27-13 after Clemson's touchdown, Miami chewed up about 6 minutes and pounded the rock down field to salt the game away. Mark Fletcher was the closer. It was a good sign. But take away Darien Mensah's touchdown scramble (and his other two rushes), Miami rushed for 165 yards on 32 carries (which also includes a Toney 19 yard end-around).

So while some progress was made upfront, a lot can be improved upon. I noticed Ben Congdon getting a lot of snaps last night.

- So Miami is 5-0 and they have won three ACC road games. I just hope this team can get healthier for the stretch run.

Congdon’s presence definitely helped.

I want this offense to be able to put forth a full 4th qtr game. For a variety of reasons, some that have already been said - but don’t need the offense to disappear for swaths of the game

And injuries aside….play calling
Going for it on 4th down…with a run between the guards that failed that gave Clemson great field position was just ridiculous. Just punt the ball there.

3rd and 6 - in the second half. Miami chooses to run it up the middle…didn’t come close to a 1st down. Why can’t Mensah throw the ball….there

A lot of yards for Clemson came on scramble plays from the QB and when you realize our corner situation and their WRs it makes perfect sense that's where it would break down.

I really, really want to see what this team can do at full strength. I hope we get to see it this season.

If Clemson had an OL they would be a top-20 team. Big problem for them is playing a true freshman RT who wasn't ready for grown man strength.

That QB is nice. He's a true freshman and has balls the size of basketballs. They're really constrained on offense because when space gets short in the red zone he doesn't have the accuracy and processing speed to consistently finish drives right now, but that kid will be a future problem for teams.

Clemson WR's are nice. Big, strong, tough. On a fade ball they were an inch from TD and going in 17-10.

Ashton Hampton wasn't specifically matched with Toney often, but he won his matchup when they were. That kid is legit legit. The 4th down play against Toney was lowkey special.

I'll have a lot of thoughts on Miami when I write this one up, but Mensah is playing QB on a level that is going to be talked about on par with anyone this school has seen if he continues the whole season.

And he makes such solid decisions and most importantly protects the football.

Way too many QBs at other schools get raved about and crowned on CIS but they throw picks or fumble the balll in too many horrible situations. Even the top tier ones like Chambliss.

Mensah just does not put the ball in harms way often. And in the rare instances he does the ball bounces his way or he is alert enough to make sure the play is still positive.

The TD drive was just shy of 8 minutes not 6 minutes which I think furthers your point. That drive and the last two of the fourth quarter had hints of last year's playoff run: physically shutting the game down

We should not be letting Mensah get hit like that no matter how young the OL is plus unable to run our complete offense because of OL challenges. This roster is too explosive to turtle shell for half a game vs every marginally decent opponent

Im not going to pretend I know much about Clempson and how talented their front 7 is, but being able to salt them in the second half with grinding drives on the ground was very encouraging after somewhat lackluster push by the OL the first 4 games. If we can see improving pass-pro moving forward this offense could become unstoppable.

Agree @k9cane this bye week couldn’t have come at a better time…

What I would say is this team has shown that a decently healthy UM can compete with anybody…

That’s shooting fish excites me…

Miami was in control the entire game. I understand the Canes PTSD but never felt it last night. Nothing like the wake game that really felt like they were going to stumble.

Stay strong, Steve

Hey, I felt what I felt lol

But my view is that Im not judging by the standard of beating any ACC team (to me, that should be a given) but stretches of play like that last portion of the second quarter will get you beat by a better team, or at least put you in more danger.

I saw that last night and immediately realized that you just can’t take half of these “fan/content” guys seriously.

What an unserious and stupid tweet. Clemson never got within a touchdown of us.

What a dweeb
