Some thoughts on spring ball/practice...

Calls Malachi Toney the 2.0 possibly 3.0 version of the playmaker

Says he was no where near as mature as him at the same age; still questioning if he’s as mature as Malachi Toney right now lmao.

Say whatever you want about Michael Jerome Irvin, but he truly wants every player that wears the Orange-and-Green to be better than he was. His love for the U has no bounds...

Bernard Clark is one of my favorite Canes growing up
this guy was massive playing at a time when players played with massive shoulder pads.

I crack up every time I read Froggy Shipman's name on this board. Who was that porster who would post here and talk about how he was friends with all the players back in the day and then he would post pictures with them constantly?
A white dude who owned a restaurant or was a chef I believe. Haven't seen him porst in a while.

OK some thoughts on todays Miami spring game... #canes - No real need to go through a lot of the stuff that guys like Geo Milian, Alex Donna, Peter Ariz, D-Money, Gaby Urritia, have stated. But the truth of the matter is that things were kept pretty much vanilla and basic, and a lot key players were held out

- But overall, I like the athleticism of this squad, I think it's better than last years team. That alone doesn't mean it will be better or go farther. But that's my observation. The expectation is that this Miami unit should not take a step back. Cue Jim Mora -- PLAYOFFS!!

- As I mentioned a couple of days ago, this is a big, good looking team. Body types are not an issue under Mario CristobalI - Cooper Barkate, he will still put up number and make plays at Miami, don't let anyone tell you different - I don't think I've seen a player as popular as Malachi Toney -- and UM has had some unreal talent throughout the decades -- but there is something about him that has young kids and adults gravitating towards him. As my guy Brian told me, ''that's our Tebow''. He's more than just a great player, he is a phenomenon

- Cooper 'White Silk' Barkate will put up numbers on this team. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

- I shook Jackson Cantwell's hands after the game and it was like a bear claw. My hand was engulfed and never felt so dainty (which is a terrible feeling for a guy). Met his mother, very nice lady. They have loved the time they have spent in Miami. No regrets on this decision

- Met Bernard 'Tiger' Clark, we had a fun time talking about 'the Running Man' he did in the middle of the game vs Bama in the 90 Sugar Bowl, and the other celebrations they did back in the day. He's got a great personality, now coaching at Robert Morris
Overall, it was great to see a lot of our football alumni on the sidelines.

- At the Titanic, I had a chance to have some short interactions with some of the guys who came on the @CanesInSight post-game podcast. Keona Davis and his family are really excited about being here, he's actually related to Alfred 'Froggy' Shipman (one of the fastest players in program history)

- The great 'Fast' Eddie Brown was at the spring game on Saturday. Had a brief conversation with him. Kids, I'm going to tell you that any list of all-time Miami Hurricane wide receivers that don't have him near the very top -- is one that shouldn't be taken seriously. To me, he's no worse than #2( my top spot is, 'the Playmaker') Without Brown, Miami doesn't win the 83 national title. He was the best player in the 84 Kickoff Classic in a game where there was Bo Jackson and Alonzo Highsmith running the ball.

A Mt. Rushmore of Miami WR's that doesn't have him, is like not having George Washington on the real one

- The Fletcher's, both Linda and Mark, they are as good as ambassadors for the program and university as I have seen. Just the way they interact with people who want just a piece of their time. I've seen it up close on a few occasions in recent months. They have the ability to create new fans and supporters of the team and school. I can see Mark working in some capacity for the school when his football career ends.
- This was a great time for anyone that wanted their fix of ball. But there's a great feeling and momentum surrounding this program. Summer camp begins in about 4.5 months. See you guys at Stanford, lets take over that stadium...
Is there anything you'd like to tell us?

Michael Irvin
Andre Johnson
Xavier Restrepo
Santana Moss
Reggie Wayne
Malachi Toney

Eddie Brown isn't above any of those for that Mt. Rushmore of WRs. Sorry to break it to you.

IMO, just a touch of recency bias. The game was different back then. Eddie Brown would be added to this group if he were playing today.

Idk man, im a younger fan and love all these guys of course but just from box score watching and highlights

Eddie had 30 for 640 and 59 for 1100, thats 21 yards and 19 yards a catch in the early 80s

the list I provided, those guys were/are superstars. Eddie Brown wasn't a superstar.

recency bias?

only Toney and Restrepo are recent players on that list.

If this post didn't exist, and I would ask you, tell me the four top WRs in Miami history, I seriously doubt you put Eddie Brown on that list, and I don't blame you.

Andre Johnson
Michael Irvin
Toney
Santana Moss

Those are the four.

I'd agree with that list. If we're expanding, I'd say Eddie Brown earned a spot. He was the first 1000 yard receiver at the school and had a pretty good pro career. Someone might correct me, but I believe he was the first truly elite receiver we had.

Chefcane aka Devin Hester’s Tutor
Breakfast with my brother is always a trip. He’s such a character.

We talked about the Geno-Dawn dustup. He reminded me about my dustup with Bill Parcells. Which leads to a Saturday Storytime.

It was during Plan B free agency. I was a young agent. Had a player who signed with Dallas instead of the Giants.

I was at the owners meeting and Parcells came up to me and started screaming. He was mad he lost my client to the Cowboys.

“All you Miami guys are the same. You’re all gangsters.” Meaning me and Jimmy Johnson. Who had just come over to coach the Cowboys from the University of Miami.

I shot back. “Half your ownership limited partners are gangsters. Bleep you.”

It went downhill from there. I know, shocking. 😂😂

It wasn’t until he was coaching the Patriots that we made amends. It wasn’t an apology or anything like that. We kind of moved on.

That’s what happens with a lot of these sports beefs. They just kind of die out.

Carry on…..
