Had the pleasure of sitting about 3-4 rows behind the Canes bench this afternoon. My father, brother and I normally try to attend one road game a year, and up until today, we had lost seven straight. Some of those losses are just beyond gross, so man did today feel good - and yes, someone should prolly hit me with the “I ain’t reading all that” meme, but the following are just some observations I made.

- The young guys have bought in. They were extremely fired up all game long. In each other’s ears after big plays, in the veteran guys’ ears whether good or bad, constantly engaged in the game. After Skinner’s TD, the whole team went bezerk, in particular the younger guys. Skinner was smiling ear to ear man, it was really nice to see. Even guys like McCoy and Moss were standing on the bleachers for most of the game, talking to each other and locked in.

- A ton of coaching members - from Mario all the way down to the assistants and support staffers - were completely engaged from the get-go. Mario was firing up the players and in the officials’ ears after terribly blatant penalties on GT (in particular, missed holding calls). I don’t know his name so forgive me, but there was this support guy absolutely firing up Knighton before the game. Big dude, kinda jacked (I think he’s one of Feld’s guys). During and after the first two series on offense, he was constantly in his ear riling him up in a good way, and even talking that smack to GT defenders. Loved the energy and passion, something that’s been lacking from the players all season long. I wholeheartedly believe the players fed off that energy. Feld is corny, but man is he passionate and an energizer bunny; constantly running back and forth on the sidelines and talking to the guys.

- Speaking of Knighton - **** of a job by the young man today. We rag on him for his fumbling issues (and deservedly so), but today he ran with conviction. Bounced outside on a few runs (which happened to be his best runs of the day up until the 4Q to ice it), and showed burst.

- Kudos to the o-line today. Everyone and their mother knew what the gameplan was - Jacurri was going to run 20 times, we were going to go Uber conservative with bubble screens out the a$$, etc. - and they blocked very very well. Especially considering the injuries we’ve succumbed to, I was pleasantly surprised by their effort and motor. Campbell and Seymore were talking that smack to their D-line, and that last drive to ice the game and go up 28-7 was a phenomenal stamp on a good performance.

- Kam Kitchens is a ballhawk. GT’s QB threw ducks, but Kitchens always puts himself in a position to make plays on the ball. The whole team was getting hyped, he’s our best safety and a pivotal component to this defense going forward. Speaking of defense…aside from the 99 yd drive, phenomenal job out there. Consistently getting that (GT) offense into 3rd and longs was super key, and the run D was great. Jordan Miller might have had his best game as a Cane, Agude was everywhere, Wes and Flagg were actually solid. Tyrique ‘nuf said, even Ivey was decent lol.

- I tip my cap to Jacurri. I don’t care that it was GT; True freshman, first start on the road in a conference game, with a team that got embarrassed and quit against a rival the prior week. A program facing deserved backlash, with a multitude of questions and concerns. Was he a star? Nah - but he did what he was asked and never came close to turning the ball over. He’s got miles to go in terms of developing his passing ability, but this game will give him confidence going forward. He’s got some raw talent, but its undeniable that he’s got skill you can’t teach. The team fed off his tough runs, and on the sidelines the o line was fired up.

- Even for my expectations going into this game, Josh Gattis called the most conservative, vanilla, predictable offense I’ve seen in a minute. This has already been beaten into nauseam, but glad he won’t be coming back.

- This might be the most important - Mario’s emphasis on culture is slowly coming around. 75% of the team (mostly the younger guys) were absolutely fired the f^ck up on that last drive where the backups were in. The fans were very into it, and the whole team was going bezerk in the huddle and on the sidelines, just cheering for their dudes out there. Markeith was laying some wood, loved that.

- Really nice to see the guys head over to the Miami section after the game. They were all smiling, high fiving, taking pics with friends and family. Its like they played pressure-free football today and it showed. Kudos to all you fans in attendance, y’all kinda got loud and the players definitely turned their heads a few times during the game and after.

- Brinson and KeShawn look portal bound. Never had their helmets, weren’t engaged in the game whatsoever. No loss there imo - peace and good luck.

All in all - yeah its GT, and yes we’ve got a loooooooong way to go - but there’s signs of life here. Mario’s OC hire will tell us all the direction he’s willing to go and the selflessness needed in order to ensure this program’s success, but at least the boys showed heart today and never quit. Can’t say the same for some of you pansy a$$ fans who only appear when the doom and gloom is here. I’ve called some of y’all out before, and will have no problem doing it again going forward.

F^ck it, let’s show up to Death Valley and see if we can hang around for 20-25 min. They’re not some juggernaut - not with that offense. We have zero pressure, zero expectations…let’s see what’s up.

Not to get mopey, but today frustrated me a bit. Where was all of this passion and fire last week? This team is capable of it, but has gone into a shell in nearly every home game except UNC (which is a game we fought hard in and should’ve won). Why does it take going on the road to play with effort and intensity?

The gameplan Gattis called was the only one he could with the qb he had.. He deserves all the **** he gets but true freshman qb who cant really throw down field yet limits ANY OC.. Especially if they are not a true spread guru.. We had no choice but to be conservative and milk clock, limit possessions and grind it out

No I 100% agree with you. Last week was an abomination. I was Completely dismayed with a plethora of things from that game, but most notably the players quitting after one series. Like - it’s a rivalry game, you’re just going to fold? Packed house too - man was that terrible.

At least today got some of that stank out of my mouth. Hopefully we can build off that and catch Clemson napping early, keep it within 2 scores by half/midway through the 3Q and just hang around.

I thought I saw a jersey with Smith on the back make some good plays. Was that Brashard?
Yeah it was Breshard. He was great in space today, need to get him the ball more often (and not just the same bubble screen repeated over and over).

My Observation Short: Miami is pretty good, better than their record. Tech is terrible worse than their record. How is that for short and sweet from a Tech fan?

I'll say this, anyone that is critical of Mario and Co, and rip him, yeah... justified. I wont argue, the results are the results.

But it was good to see Mario smile a bit and enjoy this convincing win today. Maybe this feeling is momentary, but geezus, winning does beat losing, and it was good to see the youngsters shine a bit.

I feel Key Smith hasn’t played in 2 games. Brinson barely played all year and he doesn’t deserve to. I really hope both guys hit the portal.

I wouldn’t say we’re good haha, far from it. But we did play with more effort than I’ve seen in a minute.

I actually enjoyed my time at the stadium today. Pretty decent environment and the fans were very cordial. Best of luck to you guys the rest of the season.

Mario and the D really wanted to keep them out of the endzone. Yes, they gave it up but that is the kind of fight you want to see every minute of every game.

Let’s hope Mario can continue to get that kind of effort more and more.

@jw410 sweetie I’m waiting for you to say it with your chest - head mope on this board.

Do yourself a favor and just leave this place. You ain’t no Cane and that’s been apparent for a while. Manny’s not coming back to coddle you, so put a tampon in it or see yah.
