Some NC State thoughts after rewatch

i honestly think they were tryna shirt Pringle.

he was a huge recruit from us from armwood a place we couldnt land a kid from my whole life.

So yea i sort of agree with you on it with benefit of the doubt.

i think its a mi of nil as well though because lofton can literally do anythin save drop his draws ont he field and he will be a focal point.

guys like lofton and lyle have ripped it up at greentree
Trying to redshirt a RB is the dumbest thing you can do in roster management. Literally exactly ZERO benefit whatsoever.

Like @JHallCanes said, Pringle has been hurt on and off since spring so that slowed his ascension. He’s healthy now.

I think the staff also wanted Lyle to seize that explosive back role since he has size and is older. That didn’t happen and I’m glad they were decisive with the change.

It’s a shame about Lyle. You had guys like Coach Sol at practice comparing Lyle to the greats. Maybe he just doesn’t have the vision in full-contact (teams rarely tackle to the ground in practice). Maybe the injury set him back. Maybe it’s just confidence, or a poor system fit.

There’s probably truth in all of it. But we don’t have time to wait around. Pringle is the guy.

Lyle coming off the books next year.
So as it stands it will be fletch, Pringle and brown with CWH or Mallory as Rb 4.

I’d be curious if Miami goes to the portal here or takes Lyles pay and put it towards another position.

The amount of young talent we have on the defensive line is crazy. The trenches are built out. The floor is raised for the next few years if we can hang on to them all.
That's one of the main reasons why I believed in the Mario hire. I felt he could build the trenches just like the big programs. I'm glad to see the young guys are eating.

You did in the JJ thread a while back. I got called out for calling him a DT recruit (was on his profile), and saying he’s likely mold into that spot full time. Past is the past though
Oh yea i still don’t agree with it. It’s like they trying to force him there. He doesn’t look like a DT

It is a budget driven process now. Teams need to find the correct balance between high school recruiting and transfer portal aquisition. To far to either extreme could have negative consequences. overly heavy in HS could result in waiting a year or two for payoff or just bust and prevent signing of portal players of need and conversely, portal heavy like FSU. Each year is going to be different
Another thing to consider is with Portal players you have had an opportunity to see them perform at the College level. With some positions it is hard to predict how they will perform at the next level, especially QB. If you put your faith in an unproven talent and miss, you could go through an entire season without much chance to compete at a high level.

Maybe we can have someone in media ask Shannon why he doesnt run traditional RB slip screen in his three years here and then he can get rustled or bristle a lil, deny then take note and run it in game to get Pringle some passes.. RB screens are great ways to get touches, also angle routes is another, we run mesh a ton so rail routes attached to mesh would make sense too.. But yes I dont understand how we never ran traditional RB screen since he has been here.

Also Note that 10.56 track time is his junior time, which means if he would have run his senior year (he enrolled early) he would have definitely hit atleast 10.3 in 100m with a normal teen progression in a track season. Which means he got real deal #Verified SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED. :u5pyxda:

Pringle was also in a sling for a couple weeks mid season
Exactly. There are a lot of things that can keep a talented kid from climbing the depth chart as quickly as his talent would indicate. Always remember, the best ability is availability. Pringle is taking full advantage of his opportunity and that's what you want to see.

He's also a youngster, he was an early enrollee, he's basically a freshman age wise right now..He isn't finished growing into that body, so they are getting out in front of it.

He doesn’t play like a DT either. He’s a 4i that they run off center during passing downs and that should be his role until he grows into his body more and shows he loves trench warfare. Which he doesn’t quite yet. Play him outside on early downs, move him around and in on passing downs

Moten, Scott, Simpson and half a Blount is a **** of a starting DT rotation though, so I’m all good. Until NC State I wasn’t convinced they were ready. But Lewis has worked wonders.

I’d still take one from the portal because there are always injuries there. But we’ve got a good nucleus.

I got eaten for saying this. It's just his best spot even if he can be good anywhere because of his length, strength, and motor.

Might end up a bit of a tweener for the NFL for a few years, but he's so talented and plays with a maturity on the field.

Armondo Blount spent most of the game at defensive tackle and I think that's his long-term spot. He just turned 19 and is only going to get bigger.

Think it had much more to do with the other 2 healthy RB options averaging less than 4 ypc, than a lightbulb going on. Desperation is the mother of invention.
Totally agree with this. In regards to injuries holding Pringle back....

Pringle's Depth Chart History:

BCU/USF
- RB #5
Florida - OUT. In a sling
FSU - Questionable. No sling. Late add to injury report
Louisville - Healthy DNP
Stanford - RB #5
SMU - Healthy DNP
Syracuse - RB #3
NC St - RB #1

Pringle was here in Spring & Fall. Missing a couple weeks 6 games ago shouldn't be a big deal

Injuries can help sometimes:
Lyle's injury forced us to use Brown more
Fletcher's injury (plus Lyle & Brown's poor play) forced us to use Pringle

Those two games where he was a HEALTHY DNP are d@ming imo. Coaching staff too rigid/hesitant to make hard calls until forced to.

Yeah - coaches just have "their guys" sometimes.

Richt had Walton, Lashlee had Knighton, Mario has Lyle.

Pringle being behind CWH until 2 games ago is also confusing. Probably just giving older guys their shot first.

It took a little too long to get to Pringle - but I'm glad we're there now.
