Some names to watch before it’s deleted

I think Mario just over valued the opportunity here. If he would’ve stayed with guys like Nick Monroe, Belk, Partridge, Azeer Abdul Rahim, Kevin Smith, somebody like Liam Coen and other similar names then this would’ve been done by now instead of this giant poaching season. You can’t keep throwing fish in the water in hopes of scoring the big one. That’s how you starve and die. Take a guy like Coen, grow the opportunity, and win. When guys like Coen or Belk become HCs in a hurry because they injected life into this program then dudes like T-Rob and McClendon won’t bounce for lateral jobs anymore when you hire them.

But what if he went big game NFL hunting, almost landed the brass rings, and Mario is still able to circle back to those types? Who says they are lost?

Honestly the ONLY thing that has happened since the day before we fired Blake James that has bummed me out was losing B-Mac today. But I understand it, he went HOME to coach with three of his best friends who gave him the call, at his alma mater, for the program that both he and his dad played for, where his wife is from too. Imagine if Mario hired three former Canes and they all ganged up on a UM player who is now a UF coach to come back to coach with them? We will survive.

There hasn't been a single other thing that has bothered me. This whole coaching search complaining is just that... message board whining to me. I've sure enjoyed watching Mario boost our talent level seemingly overnight. Kept 5 Manny's without losing anyone he wanted, and added 10. Now do I know that everything is perfect? Of course not (that's dedicated to a specific moron who tried to call me out today only to shoot himself in the foot). But why would I fill in the blanks with negativity when I've no idea? We could have a very nice staff right now. Briles types, etc. But Mario has been going for it. I like it. Waiting is the cost.

Could the delay cost us a kid or two? Maybe. Sure. WHO CARES? Could landing the right coordinators LAND us a kid or TEN next year? Yeah.

I'll say it again. Let's see how it nets out. And I won't complain a bit until I see where we are on February 1, 2023. By then we will have a staff who's been here for a bit, have had a chance to work the portal heading into this season, will have played a year under Mario, and will have recruited a full class with a decent amount of time to work at it. We will have an idea of how its going.

Until then I am very well aware that we are not going to do a full 180 overnight. That there will be adversity to overcome, pitfalls, landmines, mistakes, and regrets. I'll bet dollars to donuts there will be a lot more highs though, and I'll bet even more we take a nice jump in 2023. This is going to take a while, guys. A LOT of what needs to change are not overnight things. But I am 10000% convinced we have the right guy in charge.

To take a liberty with the timeline of a couple of related metaphors, there are Barbarians at the Gates, and Rome wasn't built in a day.

I am 100% behind Mario. As I once wrote, this isn't a job for him. It's a calling, and he will get us right or die trying.

Also whoever gave the Kevin Smith BS today oxygen can go fvck themselves.

There’s a big difference between telling recruits something privately and going on Twitter and boasting to an audience of tens of thousands.

Cribby also confirmed we were talking to Partridge back in December.
We talked to Hurtt too but he was never offered the job. Reaching out to gauge interest doesn't mean the job is yours. Just like coaches interested in a job reach out.

I know the narrative you and others want is we're missing on a lot of guys but there's only a couple people that could accept Oc or Dc so far. I know this post won't help with some peoples thinking but it's the truth. Carry on.

He started the 2018 season .. with the same 3 WR's. Brady arrived in 2019 .. Burrows SECOND year as a starter .. and Brady totally revamped the offensive play book .. as per the OC's request.
You don’t think a dude make some sort of natural progression from his first ever starting year to his second. Brady def helped him but he’s been fantastic in the nfl too. Come on man. Why didn’t Brady turn darnold around too?

Just for clarification:

Did we talk to Charlie Partridge or Chris Partridge?

I think you’re confusing settling with moving on. At some point, you have to say “ok, there’s too many things in play. Time to move on.” You miss more opportunities being short sighted on one thing instead at looking at the situation as a whole.

The Jimmy G hate has always struck me as weird.

No, he’s not elite but he’s more than a game manager. He can lift his team to victory. His issue has always been the one horrific INT per game. If he could ever eliminate that - unlikely at this point - he’d be a fringe Top 10 QB.

I saw the most wonderful show just outside of Paris a few years back. It was done by LVMH and it was three stories and hundreds of pieces. It was impactful. Great Avi

Big fan. I was able to catch the comprehensive retrospective Peter Brandt put together at his downtown NYC space just before Covid.

I also have a first and only pressing poster from the famous "Portrait of a Collector: Stephane Janssen" exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark in 1986. The picture on the poster is by Basquiat. I love it very much even though it's not original art.
