Solomon Update

The days of Safety/LB hybrids playing full time LB are here. I think we should have 3 or so LBs like Quarterman in that 230-245lb range on the roster yearly, and Literally the rest of the LBs (about 8) should ALL be guys that can run and cover and are like 210-225lbs OR are primarily passrushers.

Solomon is a great fit for that, but In a LB class like this one, I think he's quite replaceable. I really do like him, but If we lose him that will be one of the least of our worries, considering this OLine class is a ******* wreck.

I agree with this all day. Kinda like the JJ approach. Make Ss a LB, make the LB a DE, and and move the DE inside to DT. Get more speed and athleticism on the field.

The obly issue would be the tackling which isn't an issue thankfully because of the coaching and because of the abundance of speed and athleticism down here its genius in fact dare I say... Broles award finalist worthy? Oh but Manny never gets that respect

Solomon is a very good player but he’s just so small. He has a thin frame and he’s not long or particularly fast. I worry about him in the run game.

He reminds me of a LB version of Tracy Howard. Smart, great technique, good player, but not enough size and speed to translate all his skills to the next level.

If we replace him with a guy like Jahmar Brown, I think we will be OK. If not, I agree we will be lacking in pure off-ball LBs.

He excels at dodging blocks and tackling in space. His technique is superb and he's instinctive and quick enough to knife into the backfield and beat blocks.

Lavonte David was listed at 6'1 190 coming out of HS and I bet he was smaller than that. I don't think I've ever seen Lavonte take on a block or get trucked because he's always a step ahead of blocks and tackles with great technique. Solomon may not be as downhill explosive but the archetype can work.

I keep hearing "moves like a db". He runs a 4.8. Hes smooth, hes agile, he doesnt run like a db though. Hes a good linebacker but he isnt even the best one on his team. He will be alright but we will too. Not an irreplaceable kid.

You said it yourself he's smooth and agile. LB is all about change of direction, fluidity of movement and initial burst. 40 time rarely comes into play. Solomon has legit cover skills especially as a zone backer he can transition effortlessly out of breaks moving in any direction. I mentioned Lavonte David well tbh Solomon is a better cover guy than David ever was.

But yeah he doesn't run like a DB...whatever that's worth.

Class will be a mess.

In my head...I can rationalize losing and/or replacing SOME of the players in this class. Some are a bit overrated and I like some of the players that nationally might be considered a tier below.

However, you're right. All of this rationalizing and...for the most part...excuse making...is for the birds. We know whats coming...class is going to be a disaster.

Gonna be a brutal December and January for Miami football and we aren't even playing.

"His feelings toward the Hurricanes and defensive coordinator Manny Diaz have not changed, but non-football reasons could factor into him deciding to go away from home for college. Solomon preferred to keep those reasons private."

He's likely gone but some of you ***aloons blaming it on UM being a dumpster fire, Richt is the devil, etc are recruiting rookies.
Where we're these quotes from?

Exactly.

Solomon is small with a small frame. I don’t see much growth potential and he’s constantly get dragged on tackles. And for his size he doesn’t blow me away athletically. He’s pretty much has the size of a db.

Yarde explodes into guys and majority of the time they go backwards.

idk about y'all...but if I am keeping it real...

I'd probably take all'dem.

Solomon, Emerson Jr., Yarde, J. Brown.

I don't care.

This roster needs a major talent and depth infusion at every position group.

Look at the roster, boys. We are running at a self-imposed scholarship deficit. On top of that, the bottom 1/3 of the roster borders on unusable trash to very JAGGY. If Miami loses Shaq and Pinckney to the NFL this year, Linebacker is horrendous. Safety and the striker position, after Johnson and Redwine move on to the NFL, we are left with a little talent at the top (Hall, Carter), but after that...its Knowles, man. Gross. Plus, Finley and Smith will be gone after 2020. I think that group above (Solomon through Brown) at least give you some depth and flexibility at some core spots on our defense (LB and that striker spot).
